You do not notice anything off by Madam Eva's response. The earlier reading must have briefly sapped her concentration.
((I set a pretty high DC))
Baern & Galqarin - Sure enough Madam Eva has granted you free reign of the Vistani camp. You spend the remaining hours of daylight searching high and low. Attempting to find whatever 'treasure' Madam Eva's reading was alluding to. Just as you are about to give up, Galqarin you find an odd looking trunk tucked away under one of the Vistani wagons - it has a strange symbol emblazoned on the side, caked in mud. After you scrape the mud away you find the symbol below ((see spoiler)).
Valerie nods to what Ioban. "Good idea. As long as they could spare a place for us."
Then she turns to Ireena and Ismark. "What do you two say? I know you and the people here..." She pauses for a moment to think of a write word. "...are not in a good term."
Galqarin looks at the metal man, "Maybe found thing".
He tries to extricate the trunk from under the wagon. Whether or not he succeeds in doing so, he will try to explain the strange symbol on the trunk to the others. He'll also test if it is locked.
"Look like tall shield with little castle and big raven", he spreads his expansive arms wide to emphasise the word big.
If the chest is locked, he will examine the lock to try to determine how complex it is and what sort of key might be required (he has proficiency in sleight of hand and thieves' tools), with a view to asking madam Eva if she knows of the key.
Valerie & Ioben - Ismark casts a sideways glance at Ireena, who looks pleadingly back at him."Well.. I suppose we could stay on the edge of the camp. We should ensure that a watch is kept over our belongings though. There is being trusting, then being robbed blind. I'd rather not take any chances."
Ireena nods in agreement with her brother,"We're safer together."
Galqarin - Upon checking the lock you notice a series of numbers around a dial; it looks like a three digit combination lock of sorts. As your fingers touch the lock you feel a tingling of sorts. Based on your knowledge of locks you can tell that it would take a great deal of strength to pry open the chest, though it may be picked if someone has a deft hand, alternatively the combination could always be attempted.
((The chest is reasonably small - think around the size of a large shoe box.))
Sandu followed Ismark's directions to their campsite. He wanted to clear his head a bit and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the Vistani camp was something he could appreciate. He dumped most of his stuff at the campsite, keeping most valuables on his person, and sat down on his backpack. After about half an hour of staring into the distance, he figured he might as well do something to get the camp going. Sandu got up, walked over to the edge of the trees and began picking up dead wood.
When he was satisfied with the mound of wood stacked, or more accurately dropped, in the middle of camp, Sandu went over to the river to pick up some rocks to make a fire pit. He would normally pick the first couple of rocks he found but he took his time getting some of the bigger ones. He even occasionally paused to skip a pebble across the water. He counted four times: a personal average. It would be just his luck if even his stone skipping skills had deteriorated in Barovia, as if the land had not tormented him enough.
After putting the damp rocks down in a circle shape, Sandu piled in a mess of twigs and sticks. He stared at them, imagining them to burst into flames. A word he did not know, 'Foc', slipped from his lips and suddenly there was a lit campfire in front of him, burning pleasantly warm like it was made an hour ago. Sandu sat down again on his backpack and contented himself to staring into the flames. Over the hours his mind kept drifting to what Madam Eva had said. When the sun, or whatever passed for sunlight in this realm, was on its final stretch, an idea entered his thoughts.
'I need a shovel.'Sandu muttered. He stood up and wandered back to the Vistani camp to ask one of the people for one. He stopped in his tracks when he saw Baern, Galqarin and Dormark standing huddled together near a Vistani wagon. He paused to look what they were doing, positioning himself so he was an equal distance away from Galqarin and Dormark but still close enough to see and hear what had the three of them riled up.
“Hmmm interesting, chest it may be worth asking who owns this wagon. See if they know how to open it,” says Dormark studying the lock. “Oh Baern, could you give the trap we found today,” asks Dormark remembering why we wanted to find Baern in the first place.
The cheery and perhaps overly trusting young dwarf is happy to have his new and interesting friend Galqarin join him in the treasure hunt, and is even more so when Dormark joins in as well. Regarding what they are looking for Bearn shrugs and says "something special, I guess."
Upon finding the chest Baern heaps praise upon Galqarin. "Hey, this could be it! That symbol sure is... interesting... if not a bit creepy. Well done Galqarin!"
Baern agrees with Dormark about asking who owns the wagon and sets about doing so after handing the trap over to his unique friend. "Are you going to make something out of it?" he asks with great interest.
((Just a side note to anyone (aside from Galqarin) looking at the symbol on the side of the chest; it matches the symbol displayed on the coin you found on the dead body in the woods at the start of the campaign.))
“I am I said some harsh things to Sandu before, it wasn’t right, but I am trying to make up for it. Here for your work in getting it,” says Dormark gives each of them a gold piece each.
“You know that symbol looks similar to the crest on the gold coin we found earlier, before we met Galqarin,” says Dormark pondering. “We should still get the carts owner’s permission to look into the box. I suspect if don’t know the code we can see if somebody in the party is good at lockpicking,” he says shacking his head at this find.
Galqarin beams a toothy grin from furry ear to furry ear at the enthusiastic dwarf's praise. He takes the gold coin in wonder; a gift for him? An unaccustomed flood of emotion wells up within him. These new companions seem to be being kind to him.
After a long moment he realises what Dormark just said, "Me open locks... sometimes".
After another look at the coin, he thrusts it in his britches pocket along with his other treasures: A small, worn book and a couple of copper coins. "Ask wagon man? Or Madam Eva?", he questions.
Dormark - You do not have to wait long. Seeing the party congregating next to his wagon a red-faced Vistani makes a beeline for you; he is large, big-bellied, bald, and covered in tattoos. "What do you want?! What is this?!" He says accusingly at you."Madam Eva told us you'd be looking around... but must you do so near MY wagon?!"
“I’m sorry sir, we were told to look around for an object based on Madam Eva’s predictions. We found this chest with a crest we recognize. Tell me, what do you know of this box and it’s contents,” asks Dormark keeping a calm tone with the man.
"This box? I do not know of this box?" He looks confused as he scratches the back of his head."Why? Is it valuable? If you found it under my wagon, then it must be mine? Or my mother's or my brother's." He looks pleased with himself. "Yes! Yes! Surely this box belongs to them...." At this point the man's eyes light up."Why - did you wish to buy this box?"
Galqarin -You believe you have slipped out of the man's sight and are unnoticed.
As the others go searching for Madam Eva's treasure, Ioben finds a spot near Petyr and Shey where they can camp for the night. He takes the times to clear the area of any large stone and sticks, gathers a little firewood and makes a campfire they can both cook on and sleep around. The campsite that Ioben has prepared is to the east of the camp, just below Madame Eva's tent.
