Kanlos nods, then hesitates for a moment, "Are they edible? They're big enough that they should have plenty of meat and wouldn't take many to feed the crew?"
You know a lot about volcanoes. This one, if one, does not seem active, and you doubt if it is truly volcanic. For the crabs, you would know they are definitely hostile, and are likely quite good to eat.
Xerronios
You would consider that, as normal crabs are good to eat, then these should be as well.
Io muses, "I have not gone hunting in years. Though bows and arrows and crossbows... were never quite weapons I was good at using. If we go hunting one of the giant crabs, perhaps my sword would be better."
(OOC: I assume the above means you are ready to tally forth, so here we go...) Stepping onto the sandy beach you have a good 300 feet of sand to cross before you reach the path up the mountain. There are about 30 mostly-intact ships beached along it, a couple between you and the path, but easily able to be navigated around.
Please give me a marching order. Also tell me if you are moving in stealth or if you are going to actively be hunting out the crabs.
Xerronios moves with his weapons out, moving cautiously, eyes scanning, ears perks and nose sniffing. "Let's save the crabs for after we explore the mountain."
Xerronios take up position a few feet behind Kanlos. "Be safe, my friend. This place, it is not your end," he whispers as Io begins to move ahead.
OOC: Before Io gets out of range, 1 Bardic Inspiration die for Io, 1d6. For 10 minutes, he can add it to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw. This can be added after seeing the roll, but before knowing the outcome.
Before leaving, Windlass spent 10 minutes casting unseen servant ritually, if possible, and keeps them slightly ahead of herself, ready to serve as a tester or cannon fodder. On the approach, she uses shape water to keep the waves calm near where the party is walking, trying to deaden the noise of the marine approach.
She calls on her goddess for some guidance to keep things quiet.

You are up. A crab is right in front of you, having just attacked, and, likely, having you grappled. Io has a huge crab on him, plus another of the medium-sized ones like the one that just attacked you. Two more medium-sized crabs are still working to climb out of their sand nests.
Io manages to deflect the small crab and one of the big claw attacks from the larger crab with his shield. Though he does take a nasty hit from the second claw attack from the bigger crab.

Breaking free of the crab, Xerronios breaks out his Doss Lute. Quickly strumming a tune, he disappears as a haunting tune which is strangely forgettable.
Once invisible, he backs away then, looking around, he backs away as quietly as possible to a distance of 20 feet.
(OOC: Sorry, but breaking free takes your action. If you want to move away as your movement, or do something as a bonus action, then you can do so, but your action is to escape the grapple. You can pull out the instrament as your free item interaction,, but you cannot cast a spell from it, not one that takes an action to cast.)

How do we want to move forward?
"Those crabs would be good eatin'!" the bard says. "Let's proceed cautiously, though."

Kanlos nods, "I'll follow your lead."

Io is going to be at the front. He's the one with the heavy armor and shield so it makes sense for him to be at the front.
Kanlos would scout ahead a little ways, maybe 100 feet, moving quietly while trying to see if anything is waiting for them in the ships.

So, unclear if Canlos is out front, due to scouting, or if Io is out front, as he said he would be. Let me know which of you is leading the way.
Whomever is leading, giv me an unmodified d20 roll.

Kanlos would want to scout ahead of the main group, but if the others wanted to all stick together, he'd hang by the back of the group instead.
