To start this off I want to let anyone that is thinking of applying know that I am EST and work ten to twelve hours a day depending how much there is to get done. Due to this I am usually only able to post in the morning before work, during my breaks if I am able and once I get home from work. This means that per topic I am in I can get one or two posts in them. While sometimes I can get more than that done it is not something that will always happen. If the possible slow rate of posts is a problem then this may not be the game for you.
Now with that done let me tell you a bit about my experience with D&D. I h started playing 3.5 in 2007 but it was very on and off to the point that I basically skipped 4e and did not get back into the game until 2014 with 5e. For the most part I have been a player with a mixture of Official and Homebrew campaigns under my belt. As for dming I have done it once irl with a family member one on one and I have attempted two campaigns through pbp on the site but they ended up failing due to time issues or other factors such as players leaving. Since my dming experience is limited I understand that this may be an issue for some who would prefer a more knowledgeable dm but if you are willing to work with a newish dm then please feel free to join.
Game Details: This game will be based on an idea that was inspired by the recent Nerdarchy video about different ideas for how to use kobolds in a campaign. In this kobolds are the tax collectors and high up in the government system of the land. Most are afraid to touch them as they serve Kalirathza a supposedly powerful dragon that has claimed the area as its own lands. So far it has not attacked in over two hundred years, using the fear of it to gather a horde by way of taxing the villagers and nobles alike.
However recently one of the few remaining nobles that is not a kobold or dragon sympathizer has managed to slip out several letters to be posted in other countries to call for help from any that are brave enough to face the dragon. The details are vague but the reward is a share of whatever treasure that has been collected in taxes over the last couple of centuries. The missive ends with a final request to make it to the town of Taldareth to meet him.
Details are a bit vague as I am still thinking of all the details but hope that the basic outline is enough to intrigue. If interested then the rules for character creation are that any race and class are available. UA is allowed but has to be approved, but due to me still being a new dm for the most part I won't be allowing homebrew for the time being. I am looking for four to five players, possibly more if more space opens up.
For character creation you can roll for stats rerolling 1s once or if you don't like the stats you get you can go point buy or standard array.
Class: Barbarian (eventually multiclassing into fighter - echo knight.)
Background: noble.
Backstory...
Morgan is a noble of a powerful house in a neighboring kingdom. He has heard of the issues faced in the not-so-distant land of the dragon, and has put aside some of his own work to come nad see if he can aid in some manner.
Backstory: Born to a Noble High elf family and a human, Gedyr was raised with elves, somewhat accepted as a half breed until the other part of his heritage began to show...suddenly his skin changed...a slight golden hue developed...a thin veneer of scales covered parts of his body....
This was too much for his father and the other elves, and he found himself on his own with nothing to his name...except for the other part...he now had magic....dragon magic...He was able to use this and his skill with weapons to become a hunter of bests and men, and earned a reputation as an honest professional.
He came to the land of Kobolds searching for the origins of his draconic powers...
Name: Dusk Race: Wildhunt Shifter Class: Cleric (Twilight Domain) Background: Far Traveler Sheet:https://ddb.ac/characters/38005744/2aRqTN Backstory: It is said that on the day Dusk was born, the moon was the fullest and brightest it had been in over a century. The elders of her tribe deemed that the full moon was a sign she had been blessed by Selune. Thus she was named for the time of day that heralded the rising of the moon each day. Under the tutelage of the elders, Dusk immersed herself in the teachings of the Moonmaiden. She was groomed to one day be a spiritual leader of their tribe, but one thing was missing experience. How was she to protect when she had not experience danger. How was she to guide when she had not experienced travel herself? Thus she was sent alone on a coming of age journey to experience for herself what the teachings of the goddess entailed.
During her travels, word has reached her ears of a call for aid to rid a country from the tyranny of a dragon. And so she journeys to Taldareth in the hopes of helping the people of a country in need.
Name: Harash Mishkalen Race: Dragonborn Class: Sorcerer (Psionic Soul UA if that's fine) Background: Folk Hero Backstory: Harash was born in Taldareth. His parents were jailed for tax evasion, and as a result, Harash was sold into slavery, taking up servitude to a kobold family. They treated him like the scum under their feet, and he tried numerous times to escape. Each time he failed, and each time the kobolds would flog him with increasing lashes. After one specific escape attempt, Harash had accumulated enough consecutive lashes that the next flogging left him unconscious at the brink of death. The kobolds then dragged him to the local shrine of Kalirathza, where he woke up on the altar, the kobolds using him as a sacrifice to appease the great dragon. As the kobold priest plunged the knife into his chest, Harash felt a split second of pain before his soul spiraled into the Astral Plane, where he stayed suspended for a few seconds before his soul returned to his body. Harash felt his wounds heal as psychic energy burst from him, knocking the kobold priests unconscious. He instinctively fled, hiding himself from anyone and everyone. All alone and starting over with his life, Harash traveled to a neighboring kingdom, taking up a job as an apprentice to a famed blacksmith. Travelers from far and wide came to visit the renowned shop, including escapees from Taldareth, who recognized him as the heroic slave who defied the kobolds. As Harash continued smithing, he noticed his psionic powers still lingering within him. Interested, he tried to harness his newfound powers and found undisturbed magic within him, awakened by the psychic energy. Years later, after the blacksmith retired and Harash took up ownership of the shop, he heard the news of the noble from Taldareth who was calling for adventurers to come face the dragon, and he signed up for the challenge. Granted, he'd have to stay under the radar -- like, very under the radar -- but Harash was ready to defy the kobolds once again...
Backstory: Nirrea grw up as a Skald in her tribe, training to record the deeds and tales of her clan's mighty warriors. Then came the day that made her name. Their clan would sometimes hire out as mercenaries and had been paid to protect a human village down in the foothills. When the orcs came at first they were too many and began to overwhelm her comrades until her magical inspiration helped turn the tide. She has since decided to make a name for herself in the wider world before returning to settle down fully into her duties as the keeper of her family's songs. Who knows, maybe one day she will write the Song of the Farwanderer and maybe another day, someone else will sing it.
Backstory: Rhona was raised by somewhat wealthy parents in a house filled with shiny money and pretty ornaments. Her life was pleasant, until the day mysterious brassy scales started appearing and the child accidentally set an expensive tapestry on fire. Her concerned parents were afraid to keep her around, so they handed her off to one of her poorer aunts, taking Rhona away from the pretty jewels of her former home. Rhona forever wanted shiny things and gold, and started stealing from people to gather a hoard. Her thieving ways got her in trouble a few times, so her aunt tried to direct her talents in new directions, particularly helping other people. When Rhona found a letter asking for help, she realized she had found a task that satisfied both her and her aunt. She would face the tyrannical dragon and receive a share of its shiny golden treasure which was the perfect mix of good deed and pretty things.
Cordell comes from a line of warrior barons, valuing steadfast loyalty above all else. The people the Windtide family rules over take this virtue very seriously in their everyday lives, emulating their baron. Cordell is the firstborn son and heir, and learning the ropes of leadership and combat.
When the call for aid came from the neighboring lands, there was doubt for the first time in the Windtide home... Baron Windtide could not hope to win in open battle if he brought his military might to bear. Adversity had brought silence to their hall. Cordell is somewhat ashamed at how long it took him to speak up and volunteer to go alone.
Years before his birth, two brave and promising young warriors of the kingdom, a Paladin woman and a Cleric man, were tasked to eliminate the kobolds that were ruining the lives of the people. Unfortunately for the warriors, the kobolds knew what they were planning and easily overpowered them. They ran away trying to stay alive and eventually fall in love and had a son. They wanted to protect him from the kobolds that still follow them and so they left their newborn to a young couple to keep him alive. 17 years later, Frekor's adoptive parents told him about his real parents and gave him the ring with his name "Frekor" carved in it that they left him when he was born. And now, after 6 years training in the forest, the 23 years old ranger named Frekor starts his quest to find the truth of his parents only knowing that the kobolds and Kalirathza are related to them.
Backstory: Perrin grew up carefree and happily in a halfling village. He would often play games and make-believe, pretending to be the Master of Stealth, Brandobaris, and sneaking around the town, rescuing imaginary damsels. As he grew up, he took up a little burglary and pick-pocketing, but only for some fun, as was the nature of his patron, Brandobaris.
During one such less scrupulous venture, Perrin found himself running through the streets of a major city, chased by the guards. Turning a corner, he found himself faced with a dead end. As he turned to face the guards, he heard a little chuckle at his side. There he saw another halfling, who simply put a finger to his mouth indicating he keep quiet, then winked and they both disappeared. When the guards turned the corner, the stopped and looked confused, giving up their search after a few minutes. When they finally left, the halfling reappeared, chuckling at his subterfuge. Brandobaris introduced himself and offered to give his aid to Perrin should he ever need of him again.
Now, Perrin continues his travels and risky adventures, all in the name of the Master of Stealth, with a hope to make a name for himself.

I think by level 3, DarthDrizzt meant that he might bump up the starting level to Level 3 just so we don't get squished too early.
