Sergei had braved his fear and turned to look at the corpse, thinking, I’d better get used to this sort of thing if I’m to be of any use. He was surprised at how well he held up at the sight. His studies of anatomy rose to the forefront of his mind, probably as a coping mechanism. Wow, you can really see the entrails there, and is that some of his liver...?
Still, his heart was sickened at some of the other details that jumped out at him, making this fellow seem like an actual person. The scruff of hair at his chin, the cut of his clothes, the expression on his face that showed suffering in his final moments...
The dead man was obviously on some sort of mission, and the letter in his hand must have the explanation. Sergei took the letter and read it aloud to the group.
Now, with the howls nearby, Sergei responds to Lucan,
”I say we get away from this spot. You’re right, we’re not here for mere wolves. Let’s save our strength.”
Sergei stows the letter in a cloak pocket, to be analyzed and discussed at a more convenient time, and clutches the not-glass sphere in another pocket. He is looking all around him and waiting for others to take the initiative to move.
"Yes, moving along will be the best thing we can do. Perhaps we can find the settlement of this Burgomaster." Thadalas says, as he keeps his shortbow in hand as he traverses along.
Leaving the body behind, the party continues slogging through the mud of the road. Your breathe creates little fog clouds ahead of you. After about a mile of traversing the lonely forest path, you break free of the unnerving forest. The road continues at a downward slant. The land to right of the trail begins to gently slope upwards to want you assume would be mountains, but the mist blocks your veiw. Crisp alpine air and the scent of fresh rain intermingled with the scent of pine greet your nose.
After nearly two miles of walking the road, tall shapes loom out of the dense fog that surrounds everything. The muddy ground underfoot gives way to slick, wet cobblestones. The fall shapes become recognizable as village dwellings. The windows of each house stare at you from pools of darkness. No sounds cut the silence except for a mournful sobbing that echoes through the streets from a distance. You can see that claw marks scar most of the walls, especially around the door frames.
With nearly two miles of walking Rudick's thoughts would continue to drift back to the letters contents, leaving him somewhat in a sour mood for most of the journey. Even the arrival at the town, while a welcome break from the monotony of the road, only went so far in disrupting the Orc's ruminations enough to trade annoyance for confusion. At Sergei's plea however, he grunts and very dryly says, "Not I, though I hazard to guess where /in/ it. And if so, we may have more than werewolves to deal with."
It is then that the sobbing began to fully register to the Orc, prompting him to stop to try hone in on it source, and then without a word to the others, start navigating towards it. Or at least, in the direction he thinks it right for it.
Don't know if you need a check for this or not DM. But just in case, here go. Same bonus applies if survival would be more appropriate.
Following the Silent Orc for the past 2 miles walking, Skip almost walks straight into his back as he stops. Jolted from his lingering thoughts of vampires and werewolves, the sound of sobbing registers in his mind. Seeing the claw marks on the buildings, the little gnome can’t help but think they are on the right track, and that the sobbing is probably connected to the werewolf. But then again......
careful Rudick. This might be the place mentioned in the letter. Maybe more’n just the werewolf has attacked this place
When the party arrived at the village, Lucan sighs a relief, but fear quickly return when he sees claw marks on the door and hears the eerie silence and mournful sobbing.
At Sergei’s questions, he responds, “I never heard of Barovia before. We must find this burgomaster, he might have answers on where we are and on the problem with the werewolf and the vampyr.”
He then glance around for any sign of a Burgomaster’s office or house with any sign that indicate the name “Kolyan Ludinovich” or “Ludinovich Family”

Alev stares at the village, any relief he could have felt at seeing civilization again was crushed when he didn't recognize the place. He knew villages, streets and alleyways like the palm of his hand, but he had never seen or heard a village like this.
And then he heard that sobbing coming from it. "I don't like this. I don't like this at all..."
He stretches his wings. "Y'all wait here, okay? I'm going to try and see if I can find whoever is crying from safe distance, and if there's any monsters around. I'll be back down in just a second!"
And then he takes flight into the air and stays high for a moment, hovering over the group, trying to see if he can spot anything on the village from above.
Lucan, a quick search of the nearby buildings reveals no clue of where this "Burgomaster" would be. Thinking logically, you think that a mayor of some kind would probably be towards the center of a town.
Alev, you fly up above the steeply slanted rooftops to get a better view. You don't see much through the darkness and mist, but a flash of lightning lights up the scene. A quick estimate places this town to have about 100 buildings. You can faintly see atop a slight hill to the northwest, there is a chapel with a graveyard out back. The crying is coming from the southwest. More startling than that, you can see walls of mist rapidly closing in from all directions.
Rudik, you begin walking down the 30 foot wide street. When you come to an intersection about forty feet in, a soft whimpering draws your eyes toward a pair of children in the middle of the otherwise lifeless street towards your right. A girl slightly taller than the boy is trying to hush the boy. The boy clutches a stuffed doll under one arm.
Rudick, who never bothered to stop despite Alev's request, whistled sharply signalling the others if he did not hear enough feet following behind him. Other than that, he looked once or twice to the buildings in the general vicinity prior to walking towards the pair, putting his warhammer away. Between warnings of vampyres and werewolves about, it wasn't as if he exactly trusted it to do him much good anyhow at the moment...
"What's wrong, little ones? Why are you outside alone?" He asked, having stopped roughly 2 to 3 feet away from the pair, and knelt down to be on their level. Even in taking such a unguarded stance, its clear that remained a certain wariness in the posture.

((OOC: I'm going to go on a limb here and assume that since Rudick walked down the street on his own, he's at least a little away from the rest of the party right now. And since Alev was flying and with his eyes set on the distance, he couldn't have seen him walking away and he has yet see the children he found for the same reason.))
Alev descends back down to tell the party what he saw. He's particularly worried about the mysterious wall of mist closing in. "I don't know much about mist, but that didn't look natural to me. If you ask me, it looks as if something was controlling it..." He explains, folding his wings around him like a second coat of sorts as he puts on his hood again.
It takes him a moment to notice something. "...Where's Rudick?"
"Wait...!"Alev squeaks, as he closely follows Sergei. Eyeing to the direction his fellow caped magic user had pointed at, he could see the orc and two small figures... Children or just people from a small race? Alev couldn't tell yet.
Distrustful, he just hides behind the human's back for now, waiting for him, the orc or any other of his companions to ask their questions to the strangers first. After the corpse and the weird mist, he was going to act suspicious of everything that came from that village until proven wrong.
Failed to find any signs of the burgomaster’s office, he realized that Rudick is already talking to a pair of children. Lucan then approaches the pair and knelt beside Rudick, trying to be on the same level as them. He then talk in a calm demeanor.
”Good children, do you know where the burgomaster live? We have a meeting with him.”
Thadalas looks around and can discern the structure of the buildings aren't like what he's seen. Of course he's accustomed to Elven architecture, but even he realized something was different about this place. His ear perks up when the others mention the mist, and he ponders.
"I wonder if the mist is sentient?" he says aloud, as he peers into the mist to see if he can spot anything unusual about it besides its movement.
Thadalas glances over to see the others having traversed down the road to speak with a pair of children. Thadalas walks alongside them, and will wait to hear their response.

After sushing the boy, the girl turns to you and nods her head before saying fearfully, "There's a monster in our house!" She then turns and points to a tall brick row house that has seen better days. Its windows are dark. It has a gated portico on the ground, and the rusted gate is slightly ajar. The houses in either side are abandoned, their windows and doors boarded up.
Thadalas and Skip, you both notice through the faint mist that clings to the ground, almost solid looking walls of mist are converting on your location.

As he hears the howls, he just nods to Sergei, silently agreeing with him but making no further comment as he just walks away alongside the group.
