Merry peers around the boss man’s hand which is obscuring her face, Well that was rude, there’s no need for that. Did your mother never teach you any manners?
To the casual observer, she would be another wanderer. Nibor however has travelled alone for many years and learned well to read those he meets.
She is taut as a strained rope. Her weight is on one foot which is slightly in front of the other, as if ready to spring forward. Her cloak seems to be sitting awkwardly at the back.
Her gaze has not left the large bristly man on the raised area but you can tell she is aware of everything around her.
I'll decide who I speak to. Your friend can't keep it brief. I'm done with her. Explain why you're both here or ill be done with you and you're both out.
Merry still not quite grasping the gravity of the situation and more perturbed by being spoken over by the boss man twirls to stand in front of him and strums a few strings on her lute, I can explain in song if you prefer...
Merry then breaks out into song, beginning to tell a tale of how Nibor and her had travelled a long and weary road.
Coal turns to the others Shape shifting guards probably means the jig is up lets head for the hall and reunite with Nibor and Merry! Coal hefts his mace and heads for the stairs back down to ground level
Of course, of course my Lord, forgive my presumption
Feigning exhaustion at making his way to the front Nibor leans a hand on Merry casting Guidance
Oh now, there we are.
Why we are here you say? We were beset by bandits not far from here and heard a ringing around theseparts, we were concerned someone needed assistance. We asked your guards at the gate there if we could warm ourselves by your hearth and they kindly obliged. We meant no imposition.
Nibor steps back graciously bowing while situating himself closer to Merry
After deciding what to take, Rollo, Coal and Arnnon leave together. After descending from the tower and climbing the stone steps, they come to a split in the path.
There is a low square building on the left with a door visible on each face they can see. There are two larger buildings on the right.
Arnnon's sharp senses can just about hear someone shouting for help from the further door in the building on the left...
He can hear faint lute notes from the largest building on the right fork...
Coal will indicate left towards the person calling for help. The music is either Merry, and everything is fine, or its them in the other building calling for help.....
Making their way toward the door, they can hear a clanging of something against metal.
Oy! Anyone?!
The door is unlocked. Inside is a makeshift cell that has been thrown together with bars hammered into the floor. Inside is a slender teenage girl with flaming red hair. She is wearing leather and fur armour in orcish style. She has blue war paint on her face and various other places all over her body.
Just out of her reach is a large battle axe. Very large. A wolf skin is draped over it. She looks pissed that she can't reach it.
Bristles listens to Nibor, visibly irritated by Merry providing echo harmonies to the tale. He sits back in his chair.
Alright tortle. That'll do. Sounds pretty plausible. Something sticking in my throat though.
He grabs a letter from the table and stands up with it outstretched towards Nibor.
See, this here letter says a chirpy cat lady minstrel and her pals have come to town hunting cultists. Mentions a genasi, a halfling, a half-elf and a warforged. Now, the Zhents have been wrong before, but you don't look like none of them mentioned. Where do you fit into all this?
Realising this man knows more of the group than he's entirely comfortable with Nibor accepts the letter, scanning it briefly:
Oho "chirpy" indeed! Merely a wandering scholar good sir, blasted Orcs caught me quite unawares on the road and a group not too dissimilar to this one mentioned came to my aid, kind souls indeed! Nothing more interesting than that I'm afraid, strangers helping a Tortle in need! My friend and I here wandered upon hearing the bell I mentioned, I believe the others are still snoozing on down in the forest a ways back...
You appear to have me at a disadvantage, forgive my wariness but you have been so gracious to us but I'm afraid I know nothing of you and yours. I get the feeling we've wandered into your affairs and would not want to impose, may I ask if we are intruding or would you prefer us to leave you to your business?
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Coal will look at the cage and try to work out how to unlock it. Being hungry isn’t enough to be caged like an animal. Let’s see if we can work out how to get you out. Investigation 24

A tall woman in a hoodless cloak has approached the raised area and is standing behind the pair, waiting her turn to speak.
Merry peers around the boss man’s hand which is obscuring her face, Well that was rude, there’s no need for that. Did your mother never teach you any manners?
Do not try me cat. Tortle, speak.
Oh gracious, excuse me sir, I'll be there presently
The bench creaks loudly as Nibor stands and ambles towards the front, clumsily knocking his bowl off the table and colliding with his neighbour
Oh sorry sir, just bear with me, I'm a bit slower don't you know ahahaha...
On his way he eyes the cloaked woman and tries to gauge if she is with this fellow or another of the group that this man doesn't know Insight 18
Maybe your Grace should let this young lass report while I make my way...

The downed man carries a pair of sturdy looking keys. His leather saddlebag holds 70 gp, 12 pp, and six agates (worth 10 gp each).
The two earlier killed guards in the room each have a sharktoothed longsword and a rudimentary wooden shield

Just out of her reach is a large battle axe. Very large. A wolf skin is draped over it. She looks pissed that she can't reach it.
Rollo lowers his rifle slightly, ready to take a shot if needed but enough to show some concern
who are you? And how did you end up here?
The girl’s head snaps round to look at them, before looking them up and down.
Who am I? Who are you?? she snarls.
She then continues to stretch her arms out towards the battleaxe which is just out of reach, before she slumps in defeat against her prison cell.
Wihout looking up and in a rather sulky tone she grumbles, Yara. That’s my name. They caught me stealing from their kitchen.
