Northlands Campaign

The doors open inward quite easily, onto what at first glance is another former barracks.  However, you also notice immediately that there are several more of the same type of lizard that you found sleeping in the kitchen.  Moreso, you see that they noticed you, and charge.

You have a choice, immediately back out of the room and pull the doors closed, or prepare to fight.

After hearing Kina's mutterings and Rachel's retort Wil fails at suppressing a snort, is suddenly wracked with a coughing fit and goes after Barnabus. "So Barnabus, about that next room......" but trails off as he spies the lizards. Quickly he makes a grab for Barnabus to yank him out of the room and to close the door after pulling him out.

Acrobatics: 18

His eyes pop wide as Barnabus sees the lizards charge. Mid back pedal he feels Wil's hand pulling him back from the danger. Barnabus struggles to grab the door and remain upright at the same time.

Athletics: 22

You make it back into the hallway and get the doors closed just in time for multiple heavy objects to slam into the doors from the other side.  The doors hold, if barely.  Hissing and lesser thuds continue from inside the room.

"Isn't that the only path we haven't checked out yet?" Cade asks the others. "Seems like we need to deal with those lizards, or else we are out of things to look into..."

“There are the stairs going down in the Northwest corner of the main room that we entered from the courtyard.”

Barnabus is reasonably certain he did not see any stairways or other openings in the barracks other than a small wall breach where the lizards likely gained access to the area.

And while you have not yet seen the stairs down in the "closet" with the rat and stale cheese smells, you are aware of an area at the back of the closet that you have not yet investigated.

"Do we want to check out the area behind that area smelling of rats, or do we want to try those stairs down next?" Cade asks with a nod of understanding. "Just as well leave those lizards to enjoy their new home, unless there is nothing found in any of those other places."

“On to the rat closet”

"Agreed" chimes in Barnabus. "Best to persue all avenues before putting ones self in harms way."

The banging on the door eases as the hissing from the lizards subsides.  Some new cracks and splinters can be seen, but the doors still seem sound.  Heading back to the main hall, everything seems quiet.  The open doorway to the storage "closet" is 5' wide, and turns immediately to the left with several small barrels lining the wall.  Cade remembers a smell of stale cheese coming from the 2nd barrel whose top sits slightly askew.  A musky odor emanates from further within the hallway.

(Completely out of character, I have been working on setting up a discord server for play by post.  The concept is very open at the moment, and lots of room for expansions.  I would love additional opinions and/or help with fleshing it out.  If any of you are interested and have the time, just say the word and I'll send you the link.  I am doing this here first because I am truly enjoying the interactions and feel that each and every one of you would be amazing to work with on this.)

OOC: I’ve never used Discord, this is only my 2nd DnDB campaign/adventure but would be willing to learn/help out with Discord.

"Keep an eye out for rats..." Cade tells the others. He pauses to look inside the barrel he smelled the cheese smell from previously, taking a glance inside as he gets up on his tiptoes to do so.

The top of the barrel comes off easily to reveal chunks of hard cheese and biscuits.  Not exactly fit for human consumption, they show significant spots of mold.  As you open the barrel, you hear a stirring and some inquisitive squeaks from deeper down the hallway.

Wil looks at the further depths of the cheese room.

Investigation with Darkvision: 18

The squeaks become more agitated, but you see the hallway goes about 10' and turns to the right, hints of movement can be seen all along the hallway and walls.

“Cade, would you mind tell these rats that we are just passing through and have no intentions of stealing their food and that we might even leave them some once we are done here. And it would be greatly appreciated if they would let their friends further in know as well.”

OCC: Discord is great. Using it in my campaign thats been going for over a year. 1 channel for maps, 1 for OCC and 1 for treasure. Oh and its great for game notes as well. 

"I'd have to cast the spell again." Cade says with a glance away from the barrel of cheese. "I could do that, or we could all simply grab some of this moldy cheese and sprinkle it off to the sides as we go, which should keep the rats busy as we explore." He waits to see what the others prefer, as he has no issues doing it either way.
