Tulock, the boy nods seriously, and you have faith that in his need and street-smarts he'll get the job done discreetly. "Won't disappoint you I won't, yeh'll see. Quiet as a cat an' wit' ears like a hawk, that's Urchin Uriah for yah!" You head north toward the Merchant Ward, were you meet up with Jorvik and Dughening. At this point, I would like the three of you to add 50XP to your character sheets for the role play and exploration.

Zaza, it's close. Too close. You know these dinos are faster than you, but you dash ahead anyway, using your skillful tripping strike to gain time. 40 feet behind. 20 feet, 10. Just as the velociraptor begins to harry your heels you and Draza scramble up the wall to freedom. The crowd's cheers are cacophonous, as it's clearly an event when one person escapes a run, let alone three. In the crowd, fighting against the tide, you see Belym, tears of joy streaming down his face. Draza looks at you. "You...you saved me. Thank you friend, thank you!! I cannot begin to show my gratitude." After a time, the throng dies down to the point that you, Draza, and Belym can converse. Zaza, go ahead and add 50XP and inspiration to your character sheet for the combat and cool strategy.

Tulock heads north to the Merchant War until he sees Jorvik and Dughening amongst the crowds. He waits to see them glance over at him and then gives them a quick wave as he heads over, using his spear as his walking stick. "Hail new friends! What news do you have to share? I have the Harbormaster working on setting up a meeting with two guides. I figure with the two we can always lose one and not screw ourselves, not that I plan to put anyone in danger. I also have the Harbormaster seeking out some hirelings for us to handle the camp's day-to-day activities, help us haul the treasures that await us, and maybe some brave lad will join us as our torch bearer. I also have some feelers out searching for some rumors or any other extra info. The more information you have on your enemies the better chance of overcoming them."
"Honestly my good man you should be thanking your husband, if not for his pleas you'd be dino lunch. You can show me some gratitude by taking me to (what was it... oh yes) Kaya's House of Repose and treating me to a drink. I think we both need one right now. I have a couple of friends who will meet us there and it would be a great help to learn more about yourselves, this town, and the island itself."
"Tulock! Good to see you." Jorvik says as they approach their companion. Smelling the alcohol on Tulock's breath Jorvik gives out a hearty chuckle, "I see you've been enjoying the fine weather. "
Jorvik then proceeds to recount much of the conversation with Otamu, explaining the conjecture regarding the curse of undeath, undead of Chult, Paladins, and opportunity for additional income presented during the conversation. As he finishes, he looks around and asks, "Weren't there more of us?"
"Happily," Draza stammers. He reunites with Belym with an embrace, and the two of them lead you to Kaya's House of Repose.
((For the purposes of moving things along, I'm going to consolidate events slightly. For starters, no one approaches you three in the market ward today; that encounter will be moved to tomorrow in game))
At this point it is late afternoon, approaching the evening, and Tulock, Dughening, and Jorvik continue their conversation as they make their way to Kaya's House of Repose. It is a simple but cozy inn resplendent with tapestries, pillows, and the powerful aroma of honey, spice, and incense. Zaza enters not long after, walking with a pair of men, one tall and long of hair, one stocky and mustached, both with a thousand yard stare and voices of uninhibited relief and jubilance. As the afternoon turns to evening, the four of you and your two new companions are free to carouse. Go ahead and describe any conversation you would all like to have, as well as role-play any evening activities.
A couple hours later, urchin Uriah enters the inn and makes his way over to Tulock and any other party members. "Oy, guv'na, back like ye asked!"He gives you a sly grin before launching into a tirade of what he found out today. "So's I heard some warriors talkin' about a blue-tinged mist, said teh avoid it at all costs. I heard some traders talkin' about an old monastery inhabited by birdfolk, down the Olung River; rumor has it they're holding the "last chultan heir" captive, whatever that means. They also talked about some garden palace down the Olung River, called it Nangalore. I also heard a warning about the Terrorfolk, apparently they got them some sorta stone spire they live at that they defend fiercely."He pauses. "Oh yeh! I also ran into Zindall, he said teh give you this note."
Tulock, tidings. Merchant Prince Jobal set up a meeting for you with the potential guides tomorrow at noon. Unfortunately, as of yet I have not found anyone willing to join your jungle expedition, but perhaps you've better luck. Salutations, Zindall. P.S. This is some runner you have, he's a crafty one.
Tulock finishes off some ale followed by wiping his mouth with his sleeve. Tired from the teleportation and the heat of the island, and enjoying the comforts of the inn and tavern Tulock starts to slowly fade when the young lad approaches him and he quickly snaps from his daze. He listens with intent to the young lad and then when takes the letter from him he hands the boy the gold piece he promised him and says, "come back tomorrow morning if you want to see more gold like this. I'll have more work for you. What was your name lad? Now that you've come through I ought to learn and remember it." Tulock then reads the note and brings his companions up to speed. "Tomorrow any of you are free to join me in interviewing these candidates."
Tulock then orders two drinks and brings one over to Zaza and hands it to him. "We haven't really talked yet, mate. You look like you had interesting evening," he says as he gesutres over to Zaza's two new friends.
Tulock, the youth scowls sullenly. "Said my name was Uriah."He brightens up immediately upon payment. "Right then! Be back t'morrow!"He scuttles off with an excited air of someone who's eager to please and has an idea how. I would say that Zindall has extra copies of the guides' flyers that Tulock could've taken, so if any other party members are curious and have input, all of the guides are on page 3.
As the evening progresses, the six of you are served an aromatic meal of spiced fish stew, a refreshing salad of some sort of jungle root, and as much Tej as you'd like. At a certain point, Draza and Belym introduce themselves. "Pleased to meet you all," the tall and long-haired Belym says. "Your companion here saved my husband and we couldn't be more grateful."The stocky mustached Draza nods with the same thousand yard stare. "If it wasn't for you I'd be dino meat. I only wish there was some way to repay you, we don't have much to spare..."

Tulock returns Draza's and Belym's introduction with his own and after they tell him their story. "It's a rough place you two decided to call home," he says to them. Turning back to Zaza, Tulock says, "Aye, I'm not the person who can just sit around and wait. Always be zig-zagging so life has a harder target to hit." Tulock continues drinking and then a thought pops in his head, "Zaza, if we are going into this expedition we need an order of command. But one of us," and he looks around his new comrades, "should be the one calling the big shots."
Dughening looks Draza and Belym up and down and finds them satisfactory. "My quest is for knowledge," he says. "I have never been a leader of men nor a fighter for any cause. I can offer counsel, and I can state my preferences... but I would prefer not to be accountable for making the final decisions."
Draza and Belym give each other a glance. "Not from around here indeed," Belym says."Your group's chain of command is outside my purview, but if it's information you want, ask away."
"Aye," Draza adds. "We've little coin but I owe you my life, and anything that I can do to help your quest here, I'm willing."

Jorvik, nods along as Belym recounts ZaZa's heroics - "Seems like you availed yourself of some Dino's nicely! ((Gonna try to consolidate & move things forward))
Belym responds,"Draza and I have talked, and we've decided to come with you. We owe you Draza's life, have no coin with which to pay you, and no true immediate prospects here. A cut of findings is more than generous."The following day, Uriah comes in. "Zindall told me y'all were heading out in the jungle. I've been! A little ways in anyway. I can scout and hold torches, 1 gold a day!". Feel free to add any roleplay in before the party starts the day.
The first half of the day will be spent interviewing guides. You have a noon appointment with Eku and Salida, and may also talk with other guides should you wish. The meeting is held in Merchant Prince Jobal's villa, where you may enter and introduce yourselves. Eku is your first meeting, a middle aged and kindly looking woman, dressed in blue robes and holding a walking stick carved with an angelic snake-like bird.
The second half of the day may be spent purchasing equipment, gathering rumors and information, or betting on a dino race. Once we've interview & selected guide(s) I'll make a 1 post reply for everyone's chosen afternoon activities, and moving things to the next day where our trek begins!
The next morning Tulock dulls his headache from his hangover with come spiked cider and soggy oatmeal to fill his belly. After his meal, he goes out back to use the outhouse and along the way runs into Uriam."That is splendid news. We need a lad like you. But a gold piece is a little much, lad. It's better than staying here amongst the filth. Who knows, maybe you'll learn something from the other members too."
After speaking to Uriam and finishing his business in the loo, Tulock then returns and waits for the other members. When they arrive he mentions the meetings with the guides and asks if anyone wants to come along and then heads to the villa.
"Must be my uncanny charisma" Zaza attempts a smile, but again it seems sullen delayed and disparate from himself "But it seems like ill be entrusted with leading you all to victory. Draza you showed yourself to be very capable and I would be honored to have you and Belym join us. We must discuss tactics at some point, plus your general knowledge of the local area will be crucial. I wonder if any are a good cook...."
The following day, anyone who wishes can participate in the interview. Arriving at Merchant Prince Jobal's Villa, you see it is of very similar construction to Otamu's but with a very different decorative style; subtle yet opulent treasures are tactfully placed around as decorations while maps upon maps cover the wall. I rolled an 18 (13 + 5) when I clicked the Persuasion check on my character sheet. Does that show up for you, Jesse, or should I roll somewhere else so you can see it?
Dughening says to Eku, "I seek knowledge, and I seek to set things right. A curse of this magnitude seems unnatural. Understanding its source would be edifying, and if its source is somehow evil in nature, it must be ended."
Eku nods sagely, seeming satisfied with your answer. "Very well. If it is knowledge you seek, and true aims to put it to, you'll have my aid." She smiles genuinely. It seems Eku has agreed to accompany you as a guide, so feel free to ask her any questions in character as we move to the next interview.
((For future reference, you can roll with a built-in app on beyond. There's a little dice icon on the far right of the chat UI, you can simply add your bonus & post as so: 18 We'll go with that for now as I trust you & the DC was 15.))
A time later, after Eku has left, you all receive Salida in Jobal's sitting room. She is short, lithe, and muscular, with a weathered set of leathers, and face and neck tattoos inked in a luminescent copper. "Hey there. See you've made the right choice for your journey. Cragmyre Ironseed, earth genasi ancestral barbarian 3 ● Cyrus Natriallae, aquatic half-elf warlock of the deep 3
Name's Salida. You lot look fierce, eh? Glad you picked me, none of the other guides could help you like I can."
