Yet another arrow from Hex finds its mark perfectly, staggering a zombie long enough for Sylyra to smash its head in. Meanwhile, Ola and Uragum strike the remaining zombie from opposite sides. Arnald skewers the creature as well, kicking it off to keep its limbs from reaching. As it flails in its final effort, Cassyt brings down a sheet of radiant flame that pours over the zombie. The holy effect is too great for it, and finally, the attackers lay still in their final death.

"That" Uragum says while pointing at the zombies, "explains the missing and mutilated people. However, it doesn't explain where they came from." He pauses a moment, "I highly doubt with the amount of cares the order is placing that these zombies would naturally arise. Likely a some other outside factor." Uragum would move over the bodies and cast detect magic.
Hoping detect magic may pick up lingering traces of magic that may indicate if they were raised or not. Heres an arcana check just incase too. 18
Hex lets out a sigh as the last zombie falls and goes around trying to salvage what few arrows she can. As she does, she asks Cassyt "Are undead common in the catacombs?"
Cassytwas bombarded with the questions from every side and Ola waited for her turn to add some more: "Your holy powers are fully appreciated, but I must ask - do they include any healing magic? I am afraid we might need it more than any offensive moves you can offer."
Using his wand, Uragum examines the area for the influence of magic. He finds no auras, aside from the items that the party carries upon them.
Cassyt, looking slightly pale, shakes her head at Hex as the tiefling examines her spent arrows, "No, they are not common at all. I have never seen anything like that before. That is why the catacombs have been sealed, so that creatures like these could not get out."
She responds to Ola, "I am sorry, my abilities are quite limited compared to yours. I am lucky that I was able to be effective at all. I have never had opportunity to use Kelemvor's sacred flame before."
Sylyra looks at Arnald as the human begins moving zombies toward the door to block it. "Shouldn't we go in there?" the elf asks. "Aren't we here to do what we just did? Destroy all of the undead?" He looks at the creatures at his feet. "They aren't going to come back to life again, are they? How do we know they're truly dead this time?" He pokes at one with the butt of his staff to see if it reacts.
Arnald stops dragging a zombie and shrugs, "I thought we were going the other direction. I just wanted to make sure we weren't suck up on from behind." Looking to the party, "Does this change our plans, do we want to go this way now?"
"What do your rules say, Cassyt? Can those undead be the bodies you are supposed to care about? Should we return them to the crypt they belong?"But no matter the answer she looked at the remains - may be the rotten clothes could tell if the zombies were of some importance to be buried here and truly need to be returned to the graves? "I agree, we can as well look behind that door."
The zombie's desiccated flesh flakes apart when Sylyra pokes at it, but the creature does not rise again.
Hex peeks through the door, seeing only part of the larger room within. She notes a surprising amount of light coming from inside.
Cassyt sighs, "It seems unfortunately likely that these were once citizens of Phlan whose rest has been disturbed. We will see them to their resting place once more, but that can wait. It will take time to determine where they came from, or perhaps we will find that as we progress. I appreciate your care for them, however."
The square room within is approximately twenty feet across. The ceiling, far above, is capped with iron grates through which the sky above can be seen.
Shackles are bolted to the walls and an iron lockbox is fastened to the wall. The lid to the lockbox is open, revealing a number of wooden stakes.
Though it is difficult to be sure, a hinged gate in the grate above seems to be open and a length of rope ending in a grappling hook lays in a heap on the floor in front of you beside a short, rusted iron bar.
A single wooden door is closed on the opposite side of the room.
"I don't suppose it was the zombies who tried to escape using the rope,"half asked/half stated Ola. She picked up the rope to check how fresh is it, though in the light of a lamp it was hard to tell. "May be those zombies were not the remains of those buried here, but of graverobbers? Terrible way to pass, even for the thieves."
Hex looks around the room before staring up at the ceiling and through the grate to the sky. "Judging from the wooden stakes and sunlight, this place was probably used to kill vampires." As Ola states her theory, she nods in agreement. "Yeah, you're probably right about them being graverobbers but still... why did they become undead?"
(I, as a player, know absolutely nothing about undead haha. Hex's favoured enemy is undead though, so would she be able to piece together why the zombies may have turned undead in this specific room?)
Uragum looked up around as Ola and Hex gave their assessment about the room. "Vampires you say? Well, I suppose that would explain much of what's around here."
Uragum will take a closer look at the zombies examining their clothing. Depending an the state of decay of those would tell them if these were fresh corpses or long dead and risen.
Sylyra hangs back at the door, letting the others be more adventurous now that his embarrassment has subsided. "The rope was surely to be used to enter and exit," the elf suggests. "That it is now useless for an escape means something went awry." At the mention of vampires, Sylyra raises an eyebrow. "Kill vampires?" he asks, sounding a bit dubious and a bit wary. "Is that right?" he asks Cassyt, though he doesn't say her name.

"Whoever built this place was alive before any of us," Cassyt answers. "It seems likely that Hex is correct, but I cannot recall vampirism ever being an issue in Phlan."
For Ola:
The rope is far from ancient, staying intact as you inspect it. You are unsure of how long it has been here, however.
For Uragum:
The zombies are in varying states of decay, but these are not recent corpses. The newest has likely been dead for a year or longer.
"Well, this rope does not look ancient,"stated Ola the obvious. "Grave-robbers seemed very likely. If they become undead... Was not that statue under the Sokol Keep doind just that? Turning corpses into undeads? May be we have something similar here at play."Ola did not know either how it was possible, just remembered things. "One way or another, they do not look like they can raise again. Shall we go back to that tunnel behind?"

"Huh. It's surprisingly bright in here." Hex enters into the room, cautiously watching her step and observing her surroundings.
Arnald follows Hex but this time he readies his bow in hopes of not being in the thick of the fight next time.
