After they pass the guard, Kal does his best to hide a smile as he asks Syl, "Have you ever actually lied to anyone before?" Glancing back at the others, he spurs his own horse forward to a faster pace. "I say we make haste. Either we catch him, or we put enough distance and give ourselves enough time to set a halfway decent trap."
Velyra follows after the pair, driving her own mount to pick up speed. Occasionally she'll stand in the stirrups, trying to get a decent look at the road ahead to watch for the advisor.
Her eyes flare with electricity as she calls up divine guidance for help with the task.
"It. Wasn't. That. Bad." Sylnora replies, pausing between every word as she bounces uncomfortably on top of the horse. Riding was not a skill in her mastery book.
Taking off at a gallop down the road, the scenery passes by in a blur. It is only about 15 minutes into your journey that you round a particular bend in the road cut through the trees. Just as you do, you catch sight of a robed figure disappearing around another bend, about 300 feet out. You caught only a glimpse of them, and they were not on horseback.
Usul hops on a horse with Syl, and has Dib perched on his shoulder, sniffing the air ((22)). He seems to be enjoying the ride, never having been on a horse this big before.
"I'm not particularly deceptive though, is that in your wheelhouse?"
Silthras frowns at Kal, "I prefer to think of it as persuasive mis-direction. It's a survival skill in my line of work..."
He frowns as he watches Syl address the guard then, as he is leaving, nods to the guard, "We have some loose ends to tidy up, but if he asks, let him know that we do have a few things to give him..." mainly swords, "...and we will be back soon...if he asks."
Silthras looks from Syl to Usul, "Do either of you have means of observing them unseen? If not, I suggest one of us tries to catch up with them, perhaps carrying Dib."
Sylnora nods, looking to Usul. "Whenever you're ready, I can make you pretty difficult to detect for up to an hour," Whenever he's ready, Syl will cast Invisibility on the gnome.
Usul looks up and grins, "We've never been invisible before!" he says, adding, "Though Dib and I can only communicate about 100 feet or so...so we would all need to get closer."At this, Dib hops off his shoulder and onto Sil's. "I'm ready when you are. Try to keep up!" He then braces himself for the spell and is ready to dash from the saddle to catch up to the man ahead.
I know we aren't in combat, but Usul can move pretty quickly when needed (even without the Urchin trait in a city). only 25ft movement, but there is also the dash action, and cunning dash action, so a total of 75feet per turn at a full sprint. His plan would be to sprint forward until he gets the guy into view (or a bit closer... enough to be able to follow easily), and then slow down to match his speed while trying to stay quiet, occasionally reaching back to dib to have him act and point in the direction of Usul (if in range), or jump around and panic if Usul is in danger (Again, if in range)
"I can communicate a bit farther than that, I'll shadow behind you as far as I can and relay it back to the others."As Syl dismounts to follow after the gnome, leaving a 120 foot gap between them, she speaks into his mind with the Psi Crystal.'Now you can respond to me with anything you see. If you get in trouble, I won't be far behind and I'll call the others up.'
So my idea here is Usul ---120 feet--- Syl ---120 feet--- Rest of party. If it looks like she's going to come directly into view of their target, she'll move off the road into the treeline(if there is one?) or otherwise try to stay as hidden as possible.
Invisibly and practically soundlessly, Usul scurries off down the road as Sylnora follows in a half-hearted pursuit, merely trying to stay within telepathic range of the gnome while the rest of the party follows even further behind. Eventually rounding the corner, you see the man hasn't walked very far, perhaps a further 80 feet down the road. You see the back of a bald head, and a tattered brown robe with the hood down. Running up even closer with silent footsteps, you get close enough to confirm that it's the man you're looking for. As close as you are though, he doesn't notice you.
As Sylnora just barely rounds the corner she steps in the nearby brush, crouching on the other side of a line of bushes following the road. A few twigs and leaves snap beneath her feet, but at this distance she'd be confident it blends in well enough with the ambience of the woods.
Usul, knowing that he'll be communicating much more effectively through Sylnora than through Dib, pops his furry friend into his coat, and immediately feels more at ease feeling the warmth inside his jacket. He then sends a message back telepathically saying, "This is definitely the guy! It's hard to hide this shiny of a head. And it looks like he's alone! We'll stay close..."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Sylnora relays the message back to Kal,"We're far away enough from the town...Do you think we can take him down here?" and then waits for his response. Once he does she'll contact Usul again to let him know. As she waits, she takes a hard look around the trees to make sure they're really alone.
"It's him," he says to the others. "We can start the fight here, or wait until later. In either case, Usul is sticking to him for now." Kal thinks for a moment, then nods. "I think now is the best time. The longer we follow, the longer we have to slip up and alert him to our presence without meaning to." Whatever Velyra and Silthras say, he'll relay back to Syl.

The guard gives the wizard a shrug, and you're not sure if he's convinced or just doesn't really care. "Sure, I'll let 'em know."
Guiding your horses out the gate, you begin down the now familiar road, splitting off the main road to go north to Feycrest.
What's the plan from here? (travel pace wise at least)

"Stop!" Velyra says in a low voice, bringing her own mount to a halt. "Someone is up ahead, around the next bend. They're on foot. Could be Calmaius."
"Should we try to catch him?" Usul says with excitement. "Or we could try to follow quietly... but with these horses that might be more difficult..."
