Silthras raises his eyebrows, "Well...that's interesting. It seems...", he slowly begins to frown. "...I don't know. But whoever lives or lived here probably knows a lot more about the undead than we do. We should keep all this until we can investigate it properly."
He takes out his sack, and stows the items carefully, then offers it to Velyria, "Do you want to carry it, or shall I?"
(( Do the names Varemut' and Emel'ohríw hold any significance for Silthras? ))
Velyra will take the stone out of the sack, turning it over in her hands as she looks it over. "You can hang onto the rest, perhaps see if anyone recognizes that signet on the ring..."
"But I'm inclined to agree with you about the occupants. More questions keep piling on..."
Is Velyra able to recognize the rune on the stone? Or the signet ring?
(( Assuming Velyra mentions the stone's function while they sort out the items ))
"Well. That is interesting. I wonder if there is any way to find out where the other is? We probably should be very cautious with it. Unless..." he smiles somewhat wickedly, "...unless we attune it and wait for a message....?"
Velyra shakes her head, "no, I think Kal might be right here." She gestures back out towards the kitchen, "all the signs we've seen here point towards someone living here up until about a month ago. Think of the rotten food." Holding up the stone, she continues. "This probably belonged to them too, not whatever might be stalking the halls now. I would be willing to bet the owner of this stone has been dead for some time."
"Sending a message of our own might be the only way we figure out who was here and what they knew."
Silthras considers Velyra's comment for a moment, then nods. "Yes...yes...I think you are both right. But...let's not give too much away."
He stares at the stone in Velyra's hand for a moment before continuing, clearly concerned. "Perhaps send something that would be relevant to friend of foe alike: 'Undead roaming free, town almost fallen. Need further instructions.'...the powers behind that likely already know the town has fallen, and -- if you are right -- any allies have not had a report for a month or more, so this will be useful, if distressing, news to them."
The symbol means nothing to Kal, who has spent considerable portions of his life away from large cities...To Usul however, the sight of the cat's eye on the ring plucks a string deep in his memory. He's seen this somewhere before, on the streets of Sonatide. The exact meaning behind the symbol eludes him at the moment however.
“We’ve see this around somewhere before,”Usul says, scratching his head, “but can’t remember where exactly... Mind if we hold on to it for now?”He then puts the ring on his finger of his left hand.
"This place is nigh untouchable for most people, it's not like anyone will be sent after us. If that were the case, the stone most likely would have been retrieved long ago." Velyra says, brushing off the man's concerns. "Opening up with dishonesty is unlikely to earn us any friends." She thinks for a moment, and then activates the stone, focusing her thoughts to send a message through it.
'With regret, it would appear the original owner of this stone has passed. We found their belongings. Willing to return for answers.'
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Silthras shrugs, but it clearly annoyed. "If the owner is dead, how would they have found it to reclaim it -- the stones give no location, and were well hidden? If the leader of the undead is at the other stone -- and I agree that's unlikely -- then this place is far from untouchable! The only saving grace is that the stones don't give away location. Unilaterally gambling with our lives is not a wise or friendly course of action. Whatever else you tell them, exercise a little more caution next time, for all our sakes. And don't tell them where we are."
While we wait for a reply, Silthras examines the ring in more detail, trying to determine the house or organization it belongs to. (( History: 8 ))
"That is...most unfortunate." A drawling male voice replies in Velyra's mind. "You'll find the stone has its limits. At morning, answer what became of the original owner, and ask your question."
"Gambling? The elvish woman echoes raising an eyebrow. "We are not all so paralyzed by caution that we avoid taking the slightest of risks." As Velyra is about to continue, the voice sounds off in her head, and a sly grin forms. "Well I'm afraid we're all doomed after all. They want to know what happened to their poor friend, however shall we survive such deadly questioning?"
She pockets the stone in a pouch at her waist, moving to leave the storeroom. "We'll talk to them again in the morning, and hopefully get some answers. They seemed amenable to that."
"Now I suppose we need to find the lost soul this belonged to."
"Sounds like it worked out well for us, good."Kal says, following the elf to explore the rest of the manor."Unless we find a body here, I'm not quite sure how we're going to find the stone's owner though."
Likewise to Kal, this sigil bears no semblance to anything Silthras has seen before. He's more familiar with noble families and their crest, as well as a some of the noteworthy organizations that occupy Evanicea - so he's fairly confident that this symbol belongs to none of them. Much more likely he figures, this is something on a more personal level, or it belongs to an organization that has yet to gain widespread notoriety.
As you walk towards the hallway leading east out of the kitchen, you stop in your tracks. The hallway goes on to the far east end of the manor, with two doors spaced apart on the left. A short way down, the hallway curves right again, presumably heading back towards the manor's foyer. A large trail of dried blood paints the stone floor of this hallway, from the first door on the left all the way down to the second.
At the sight of the blood, Kal will move to the front of the group with his shield out. "Be ready."He says in a low voice, moving towards the first door.
Silthras laughs out loud, "Hah! It is surviving the self-righteousness of Elves and Priests that will be the greater challenge, I fear."
He looks around at Kal's words, alerted by the serious tone, his smile fading, "Lead on..." he says, making way for the elven priest with a flourish and a slight bow. Silthras rechecks his gear, stowing the sack, and tightening straps as necessary, then follows behind Kal and Velyra, shaking his head. Never a good combination.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Usul lets the others lead as he moves towards the back, crossbow at the ready. Dib, climbs up to his shoulder sniffing the air for any sign of life, or undeath... ((22 passive 18))

Is Velyra able to recognize the rune on the stone? Or the signet ring?
Vel Arcana: 10
The names hold no special significance to Silthras, or anyone else in the party. Velyra would recognize Emel'ohríw as Sylvan, but that's it.
After taking a good look at the rune, Velyra would also be able to recognize she's holding a sending stone
"That could be very interesting!"
(( OOC: Does it need attunement? ))
Kal takes a glance at the sigil on the ring to see if he recognizes it, if not, he'll motion for Usul to take a look. "Ever seen something like that?"
"We could send our own message through the stone, see who picks up on the other end. They might even be able to provide answers."
"That's good if they are friendly...if not, I'd prefer to see if they send anything first..."
He looks around the mansion, "...and it's not at all clear they are friendly."
Velyra shakes her head, "no, I think Kal might be right here." She gestures back out towards the kitchen, "all the signs we've seen here point towards someone living here up until about a month ago. Usul takes the ring and looks over the sigil on it ((history 7)), and then says, “calling them up sounds fun. Who knows who’ll answer!”

Sending Stone does not require attunement.
