Ok Barthurm so it is either dealing with mayor's brother; a wave of disgust runs over Dolgrim's face; another cave full of who knows what, getting something useful from the gnomes or helping Al. I know Big Al, he takes care for my Buzzer and Stinger while I cant and I am telling you, bunch of orcs don't stand a chance against him. While I would like to visit him soon, I think we should visit the gnomes first, some of theirs' do-that might come handy. What do you think?
Oh I've almost forgot, when I was getting my supplies earlier, one of the lads in the shop mentioned some rumors about a hidden treasure, somewhere near Connyberry. We might like to check it, when we go to visit Al. Connyberry is not far away from his farm.
Aye, that sound like a good plan too. Dolgrim opens the bottle he brought and drinks heavily from it, then he passes it to the other two. Here lads, have some mead.
The three of you drink and eat and talk with each other for a while. The air outside is chilly but inside the house, it's warm and cosy.
Maybe you drank a bit too much, or maybe there was something funny in the food, you're not sure. Either way, each of you comes to notice a black raven sitting on the windowsill, just watching you without moving more than its head to follow you with its eyes. Not only that but Barthrum and Dolgrim even thin they can see a very faint lichen-green aura surrounding the raven, though at this point you might just doubt the quality of the mead. To top all this, the raven knocks with its beak on the window, as if asking you to open it.
The raven studies Barthrum for a moment, looking at him from head to toes. Then, it opens its beak and words come out of it in, as Barthrum guessed, Dis' voice. "As you asked, I'm sending you a message. We're leaving and going back to our clan, all in fine condition. Perhaps we'll meet again - Dis."
Suddenly, the aura ariund the raven is gone and it quickly flies away, although it seems a little confused as it just circles around the house twice before it's gone.
Barthrum closes the window once again, "It's getting cold outside. How cold does it get? I don't really have memories of not living under ground and everything is very stable temperature wise under ground."
He yawns, "Lets get some sleep and set out early tomorrow morning. We should go by the notice board to make sure we are getting the details correct and then set out at once."
Barthrum doesn't know, but the other two do. It usually gets much colder... just not this early. Some years, it might even snow in Phandalin in the coldest days of winter. It's just that... winter shouldn't even be close yet. Autumn is only barely starting now, you could even still call it summer. Usually, at this time of the year, you would complain that it's still hot and ask someone if they also think that it doesn't feel like Autumn yet.
(I can't really refer to our calendar because climates are probably very different for each of us and so I might only confuse you by doing so. For me, it'd be <15° C at mid-September, but others might consider that extraordinarily hot so... Just think unusually cold. Not very cold, just unusual.)
Dolgrim's table manners are lacking, even for the dwarven standards. Hi beard is full of crumbs and there's spilled liquid all over where his mug is, but it is obvious to you that he really enjoys the meal. Heh, talking birds that's a clever trick, maybe I could teach Buzzer that. Anyway thank you for the dinner, it was really delicious. Dolgrim helps to clean the mess and leaves the house, going to the orchard. Will meet you at the board in the morning shouts he before leaving.
At the orchard, Dolgrim meets his elven friend and tells him of his adventures. By the way, there was this witch with the miners, she possesed powers over animals, like some of you point-ears have. She was also quite an healer with her tinctures and ointments. She said, she used bird poop in one of them. Imagine that. Do you know a recipe for some similar healing salve by any chance?
"Bird poop? Why would she do that?! I've been treated and saved many times by those who hug trees for a living but they never mentioned that! I hope she was just kidding or that she's the only one who does that.
"Anyway, I asked one of those who treated my wounds. You know, I figured that if I can just make their ointments myself, I could save myself when no one else is around. Usually they're very secretive about their arts but he was a talkative one. He told me it doesn't even matter what's used in the ointment. Some herbs or roots or other thing like those carry magical powers or are good at transporting and amplifying it but, according to him, the magic still needs to come from the one applying it. Unfortunately, I wasn't blessed to be a tree-hugger."
When you wake up, you're not sure what time it is. Usually you wake up from light coming through the window as the sun rises but today you wake up in relative darkness (not very dark, it still counts as bright light as per mechanics). The next thing you notice is the tapping sound of rain. It's not heavy rain but it is the first real rain of the season. The petrichor you smell confirms that for you. When you look outside, you see the sky's all cloudy. The morning is as cold as yesterday's night but, with the rain falling, it doesn't feel that odd. Besides, mornings are always cold and, although you can't see the sun, you know it'll be warmer in mid-day.
Some kids are playing outside, enjoying the wet feeling and cleaning. Their mothers yell at them to come inside so they don't end up sick. Some people put various types of vessels to collect the water, some unlucky farmers go out in the rain to make use of the - finally - soft ground and some head out with their cattle. Many stay inside their warm house, maybe even in beds under the blankets. It's not too strange for those who've been in Phandalin in the past. It's always been like that. Not everyone has a reason to go out and get wet. All the shops are open though, in case someone comes.
"Yes I thought Barthrum was coming with me, perhaps he will be back in a few minutes"
Barthrum shows up and doesn't greet anyone, but seems to continue a mantra he was saying on the way, trying to detail all the four new jobs posted.
He... messes up some parts, but you get the idea whereabouts roughly they are and how much they would pay.
Ok Barthurm so it is either dealing with mayor's brother; a wave of disgust runs over Dolgrim's face; another cave full of who knows what, getting something useful from the gnomes or helping Al. While I would like to visit him soon, I think we should visit the gnomes first, some of theirs' do-that might come handy. What do you think?
"Yes. Gnomes are usually an alright bunch and very inventive. I agree we should head over there next"
Carries on cooking a while
"I would like to think a bit more on how to deal with orcs before we go looking to tangle with them"
Oh I've almost forgot, when I was getting my supplies earlier, one of the lads in the shop mentioned some rumors about a hidden treasure, somewhere near Connyberry. We might like to check it, when we go to visit Al. Connyberry is not far away from his farm.

Barthrum says, "Sounds like we have ourselves a plan!"
"Sounds like we do" Says Thenmer in reply
"But first we eat and then we sleep. We can head out early in the morning if the weather is not too bad"
Aye, that sound like a good plan too. Dolgrim opens the bottle he brought and drinks heavily from it, then he passes it to the other two. Here lads, have some mead.
Finishes cooking a good hearty stew and hands ladles it out into bowls and lays them on the table with some chunks of bread.
"Right then we have good food and good drink. That's all we need"

Barthrum says, "Thenmer, one of your friends?"
He chuckles to himself, then bolts upright and goes to open the window carefully. "I believe this might be from Dis!"
The raven studies Barthrum for a moment, looking at him from head to toes. Then, it opens its beak and words come out of it in, as Barthrum guessed, Dis' voice. “One of our mutual friends it seems. That is a clever trick”

"It can get cold here in midwinter but this is only early autumn. Its very cold for this time of year, not seen it this cold this early"
Packs away the plates
"Yes we had better get some good sleep so we can get going early in the morning"

What do you all do?

Barthrum just b r e a t h e s! As far as he knows he's never smelt something like this before.
"Let us be off! Go check the note once again so we know what we should do and then go do it! It's going to be a wonderful day!"
