The cogs inside Thenmer's head whirl as he tries to assess the situation. The woman seems more upset than panic-stricken and whatever the thing is does not seem immediately hostile. Perhaps reason and persuasion can work here and the use of violence avoided. He tries to adopt his most persuasive manner:
"I do not think she wants you to break down the door. Why don't we talk and see if we can come to a solution which will suit you both for whatever your problem is?"
The creature growls. Then, after some hard thinking, it replies in common, in a deep, rough and rigid voice:
"Dwarves. Four of them. No tasty humans. Three are wearing metal. I don't like metal. The woman will taste better." The creature approaches you, its wings open wide and its face is wary of any sudden movements. "Tell me. Do you have a reason? A reason for me. To not kill all of you. Eat all of you."
Barthrum is taken aback, "Good sir, you are looking for humans with no doors between yourself and them? Might I suggest the city of Neverwinter just about a day north of here? Mostly humans and quite a large variety if my dad can be believed. And he can always be believed, he is a man of his word."
He gestures with an open hand and quite slowly vaguely northward.
"On the way there you should have a choice of either forest animals or sea creatures to feast upon as the road should be close to the coast."
He looks back, "I am Barthrum Daerdahk and these are my fellow dwarves as you very astutely noticed. What might be your name?"
Hmm, a talking cat, must be the mead that Tob gave me, I should have not drunk that human stuff. Maybe if I play along it will get better.
Listen kitty cat , you should better get lost, or do you really want to risk a fight? You might win it, but you will surely get wounded. Do you think it is a good idea to get wounded with the dragon lurking in the area?
The creature seems to be convinced by Barthrum for a moment. It even steps back for a moment, but then Dolgrim speaks. The creature growls and raises its tail high. "I know of her. Dragon moved me away. Wounded? You will die." It sounds very annoyed and would probably attack you at that moment if Thenmer hadn't interfered. "Deal? I can deal. What have you got to offer?"
"I have food, on me I have only food for a day but it is well made and tasty. We can get all our food together and that of the lady too. Now you will think that you can have all that if you can get through our armor to kill us but what that will not get you is my cooking, I can give you better tasting food than you can take for yourself."
He takes out the food he had prepared for the day, a pair of miners pasties of well seasoned meat and potato all wrapped up in pastry to make it easy to carry. Even now late in the day it looks pretty good and Thenmer's stomach rumbles slightly at the familiar smell.
(I don't know if you use the Xanathar's rules or how you use tool proficiencies with other skills. Thenmer is trying to use his skill with cooks utensils to make this seem like a tastier option)
(Actually, the persuasion proficiency gave you the advantage... but you passed anyhow so...)
The creature comes close and smells the food. It definitely looks and smells tasty and the creature smirks. "That does seem delicious," it says, "but it is not enough. One more of these. Or two more, if they're not as good."
(If you have any rations, you can give it to the creature. Two of Thenmer's will suffice, or one of his and two normals.)
Thenmer hands over his meal to the hungry monster, feeling a slight sense of loss as those had been good pasties but they were not worth dying for. He carefully weighed their size in his mind against that of the beast, enough food to sustain a hard working miner for a day would not be enough to sate such a large beast but he hoped it would take the edge of its hunger and hence its temper.
He looked at the rations Dolgrim offered.
"I could cook these into something nicer if you like, or if you are very hungry you can eat them as they are."
He looks round at the rest of his companions to see if they have any food to offer. His mind whirrs and he considers that the healer must also have food, perhaps fresher food that he could make more appealing - yet she was a stranger behind a locked door so he hoped he would not need to resort to that.
(If you want to try to make the food that Dolgrim gave you, you can use your cook's utensils to try to improve it. If you do, you can roll a check, only with your proficiency in the tool added to the total. Depending on your roll, various things can happen. Notice that failure will have consequences, if you choose to try.)

Thenmer tries to assess this creature, unsure if it a natural of unnatural thing. He tries once more to persuade it away from violence.
”Dearfs do not make easy eating but they deal fairly. We can negotiate food if you are hungry”
Dolgrim - roll for intimidation.
Thenmer and Barthrum - roll for persuasion.

(Hmm yes. Roll a check for the tool to know how appealing your meal is, with advantage.)

Charisma + Cooks tools - seems like the right ability as I'm trying to sell this

(OK that is all I have on my sheet, anyone else able to step forward with some rations?)
D: Here I have some dried meat and fruit, and some nuts ((1 day of standard rations))
says Dolgrim as he passes the food to Thenmer

(I will wait for the others to see how they react, then I'll decide if I need to cook this up to satisfy the monster)
