"Right then everyone, stick together and try not to make much noise. Dolgrim will lead and I will be in the middle ready to respond to attack from any direction."
Themner tries to talk a little confidence and discipline into the dwarves as they begin to move out, concerned that any nervous chatter would give away what they are doing.
The way back is mostly uneventful, but it's cold and long, and none of you has slept a full night's sleep, after a long day of walk before. The dwarves aren't in perfect condition either. After not eating for so long, their bodies are weak, and one meal isn't going to instantly fix that. Don-Jon and two of the dwarves are doing well, but three of them aren't doing so well. They're having a hard time keep up, and despite keeping their mouths shut, you notice a few times they're also trying hard to keep their eyes from doing the same. When the sun begins to rise, and Don-Jon can finally walk on his own, you all feel very tired, and you still have a long way to go.
Everyone, please make a Con save. Due to sleeping different amounts of time, the DC varies. For Thenmer - 7. For Dolgrim - 10. For Barthrum - 13. Anyone who fails this save will suffer one level of Exhaustion.
Dolgrim approaches his two friends and tries to have a quick conversation with them. We should be far enough from the mine by now. Looking at the miners, we should probably take a rest now, they seem to be falling asleep while walking. Lets find some nice covered place, where we won't be ambushed by the dragon and camp for a while. It shouldn't be too hard to forage some food in these lands. Whad'ya think?
Thenmer tries to think through the tiredness in his head
”How long would it take if we push on to get there? Resting is fine but if it means we are still out here when another night falls then it’s taking a big risk. In that case I’d rather just stop long enough for you to forage up something for me to cook for the weaker among us”
When the sun begins to rise, and Don-Jon can finally walk on his own, you all feel very tired, and you still have a long way to go.
((ooc: Based on ^^ I assume we are still quite a long distance (at least one night) from the town, so I will base my posts on this))
Lets see, first thing, we should probably hide ourselves a bit. We must be visible from a very long distance here in the open. Those trees over there should provide some cover and enough firewood. Says Dolgrim and points to a small woodland are few hundred meters away. Master Thenmer, will you escort the miners there and make camp? In the meantime, I will look for something edible and maybe some source of water.

Thenmer looks at Dolgrim for a moment and then nods
"You seem to know what you are doing out here, I will do that"
He turns to the tired miners with a little more spring in his step than he really feels
"Right then lads, one more push to get a decent camp and then you can all have a well deserved rest. Dolgrim here will go to get you some food and water, I will work with you to get the camp into shape so we can be safe and sheltered. So lets get over to those woods and get to it, the sooner we start the sooner you can all rest"
The ex miner leads them over to the woods. Splitting them into groups to build shelters he then takes his crystal in his hand an focuses his mind. With each sweep of his hand a great mound of earth is moved to create earthen dugouts to shelter and conceal the weary travellers.

Dolgrim nods and splits away from the party, he walks for a while in the plains, until he suddenly stops. He looks up in the distance he sees a few birds circling in the air. He shields his eyes with one hand and observes the birds for a while. Where there are ducks, there might be some water. Thinks he. He continues in the direction of the birds, until he comes to a small pond with a brook running through it. Dolgrim approaches the brook that brings the water into the pond a drinks. Then he fills his canteen. Damn, I should have picked the canteens from the others too. When he quenches his thirst, he walks a bit around the pond and investigates it. There are dragonflies and mosquitos flying over the water. From the reeds near one side of the pond a frogs can be heard. Dolgrim crouches down and pick a large stone lying on the ground and with smile, he picks a worm that was hiding underneath it. Dolgrim pats his pockets and pulls a string and small metal hook from one. He ties the worm to the hook and ties the end of the string to a twig lying on the ground. With his newly created fishing rod, he sits down and tries his luck. Shortly after, he feels a strong pull as a large fish jumps through the pond's surface. As Dolgrim tries to pull the fish back, he hears a cracking sound. His face turns desperate, as the twig brakes, and the string and hook disappears under the water. Bloody hell. He shuffles around the pond for a few more minutes thinking. I should probably head back. At least I have some water, maybe some of the miners will have something that could be used for another try.
As he approaches the woodland are where the others are waiting, he comes across a large bush of raspberries. He grabs the front of his shirt and pulls it up folding it into an improvised bowl of it. When his newly created bowl is full, he continues his journey, until he finally meets the others. It has been roughly an hour since the party split.
Well, I got good news and bad news. The good news is I found a pond and some berries. The bad news is I forgot to pick your canteens so I wasn't able to bring much water back. I've also lost my fishing hook, but at least we know there are some fish in the pond.
As you descend to the grasslands below the hills, Dolgrim feels more familiar with the area. Quickly, he manages to find all he searches for, even if he cannot catch any fish. He's tired, but starving or dehydrating isn't fun either. Meanwhile, Thenmer manages to convince the dwarves to help him. They're not very useful, but they do try their best, even the most tired ones. By the time Dolgrim returns, Thenmer manages to set a small camp. It's nothing special, but it will at least protect from the wind and might be able to somewhat conceal everyone, to some extent.
Thenmer gets out his utensils and begins to cook up something from what Dolgrim finds
"Some food should really help. Then I think we need to let you all rest. Barthrum, Dolgrim and i will try to keep watch. Its not that safe out here so we need to be on our guard a bit but at least we don't have things attacking us that shrug off our weapons"
(I think a long rest is needed from the way they miners are described. Not much use forced-marching them until they drop. )
Four of the Dwarves fall asleep before Thenmer is done with the food. One stays awake, though he doesn't eat much and immediately goes to sleep after. Don-Jon seems exhausted, but he stays up and eats with you all, then he says he can take a watch, but that he'd rather not be the first.
Are we exhausted currently? All of us passed the rolls iirc, but it's already been some time
The rest will happen mostly during the day, and end in the evening, right?
((/ooc))
I'll take the first watch. But I suppose, if you take a watch mr. Don-Jon, you should do so before it gets too dark for you human eyes. Says Dolgrim with friendly deep dwarvish laughter.
"I think we will be fine for daylight. Looks to me like we will be travelling by night again. That's fine for dwarfs, Don-Jon I think you may just have to be careful of ruts in the road again
The day passes, and nothing seems to happen. You do watches, but none of you notices anything significant. By evening, you feel rested, and everyone starts to wake up on their own. Thenmer makes another meal for everyone, and the Dwarves seem to be improving. Then, you set out again. The sun illuminates the world for a couple more hours before it finally sets. The night is quiet, other than your steps. No wind blows, and nothing else seems to be around. One of the Dwarves helps Don-Jon, but without any clouds in the sky, the moon's light gives is shed about the earth and with your dark-accustomed eyes, you can see quite well.
After a few hours of walking, you reach the triboar trail. From there, it's easier to walk, and Don-Jon manages on his own. Everything seems fine, and the Dwarves are in a good mood. Along with Don-Jon, they're telling jokes to each other, or stories, or share what will be their first action when they return home, or any other thing men can talk about while walking. As the sky begins to turn grey, indicating that the sun will soon rise, you're already sure you're pretty close to Phandalin.
And indeed, you do. The sun only begins to rise when you begin to climb the hill, and soon, you're very close to the town. A little more, and now you're less than a hundred feet away. It is about then that Barthrum notices it, though nobody else seems to. The large, white shape flying low towards the town. With great speed, it will shortly reach the town. There's no doubt about it. It's the white dragon.
Aye, lets leave this place. Dolgrim takes the lead and walks a bit in front of the party, making sure the way is safe.
