Torman grunts in annoyance after perusing his spell-book for a few moments. "Two. We can only have two," he says. He rechecks his books then looks up and his eyes lock on to Azzure, "And each caster must remain within. So, if we do this, Azzure and I must sleep in separate huts."
He scans the boats, "And if we are attacked, then for us to join the fight we must let the protection collapse."
Torman wonders if it would be better to keep their only means of escape out at sea and keep their shelter well away from the water.
(( @DM: How many crew are there? Based on images I'm guessing more than 13? ))
"Didn't the captain tell us that this boat can be lifted out of the water and transported over land? Let's lift it out, and then both of you can cast one of those spells at different points over it. That should cover most of the boat."
(What I mean is: put it on ice, and cast the Huts on the deck at two points. Two 10ft radius (20ft diameter) spheres shoudl cover the vast majority of the boat and protect it from harm.)
(( We can house 18 people; there's 5 of us...just going by the oars (28) I am skeptical that there are only 12 crew + Captain. but happy with whatever DM decides! ))
Frostskimmr is a light longship with a shallow draft, driven by a single sail or by oars when necessary. The combination of wind and oar power is needed for picking a course through close-packed ice. Despite the ship’s length of nearly sixty feet, it is still light enough to be lifted by its forty crew membersif it becomes hemmed in by ice. The ship is open to the air, but the crew rig sailcloth shelters across the deck to keep away the wind and sleet and hold in some warmth.
(I just re-read the above. Leomund's tiny hut "spell fails if its area includes a larger creature or more than nine creatures." So at best we can protect 18 people - so ourselves plus 13 crew members ... so the other 27 crew members will be out in the cold or in tents.)
"What do you think of dropping us off on a sturdy bit of ice, then backing off to anchor well away from the ice floes?" asks Duncan of the captain. To his companions, he says, "That would give us a night on 'land' with the protection of the dome, and we could keep watches to be ready and respond should the scrags make for us or the ship."

"Right, we can fly," realizes Duncan, the long days at sea having made him forget about his new equipment.
"How about it, captain? You anchor here, and we move onto the ice to make camp and keep an eye out for trouble from that direction? If you see trouble seaward, I assume you have a horn or whistle or something you can use to alert us?" says Duncan.
If the captain is amenable, Duncan activates his winged boots and starts flying towards shore.

Azzure looks down at his broom, excited to try it out and ready to set up the protective hut wherever the consensus would be. “Between the power of all of us, and some rope, can we drag it over the ice to safety? How much does that ship weigh?”

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Torman looks concerned, boats were not really his specialty, but he found the idea o moving them onto land risky at best.
"Would they not end up being so much kindling if the trolls attack, and I don't see a lot of forest for making repairs."
His gaze keeps flickering to the trolls, "Perhaps, if aggression is inevitable, we should choose the timing."
Turning back to his companions then to the captain, he adds, "We will of course defer to your judgement in this."
"I think you might be right. If these things can't be reasoned with, and will attack anyways, maybe we should attack them first. That way we can take the fight to them over there, instead of letting them attack us and damage the ship."
Thinking about it for a bit, an idea comes to Gryrig: "In fact, we can all fly now, no? Why don't we just attack them from above? They don't look like the type to use bows or crossbows, so we might be able to even avoid getting hit back"
"We'd have to be sure to finish them, trolls are notoriously hard to put down. If they slip off, they'd be sure to cause trouble down the road... as it were.", Kat remarks, realizing that road isn't a good descriptor for their mode of travel.

"Sounds reasonable to me, though I fight better up close. Perhaps I hang back and intercept them if they make a run for it towards the water," says Duncan, worried that the ice trolls might swim away and defeat an aerial bombardment.

Torman has rarely sought a fight with strangers in their own land, but nods slowly in agreement. It was his idea, after all. He makes a mental note to think before he epaks next time as he tightens his belt and pulls out the broom...

12 crew
The captain maneuvers the boat next to the sheet of Ice, the crew throws grappling hooks and scrambles on to the ice plane. Once you're off the boat, the crew haulsTheFrostskimmer far from the shore and sets up camp.
"If they're like other trolls, then fire or acid are needed to keep them from regenerating, we need to hit them hard, and be able to burn them reliably. If they make it to the water, we'll have missed our chance, until they come back."
