You can also make a nature check if you think Korrik might've seen one of those. And can then describe that to the others in this moment of initiative.
Korrik, you don't have any idea what this creature is, and you try your best to explain what you've seen to Ben and Ess.
Ess shrugs his shoulders but looks worried and continues to have his bow ready.
Ben, you don't know what this thing is just by Korrik's description, especially since he doesn't know what it is to begin with other than what he's seen.
Round 1: Busren, Korrik, Lizard, Ess
Ben and Korrik are up! No one knows what is in the carriage other than what Korrik has described.
Please let me know if I have the starting positioning correct as well.
For simplicity sake, let's not include the horses in combat. They will automatically move away from combat to a safe distance if need be, but won't run away or won't engage in combat.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Too many legs you say? Well that's..."
He hums a heroic tune to give Korrik bardic inspiration while he backpedals 30ft and readies a crossbow attack for anything coming out of the carriage.
"Not great. More legs means fast right? Just like the crocs Ess!"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Maybe like a croc's mean cousin!? It's able to something, like a spell or something, so be careful!"
Korrik backs up 15 feet or so from the cart and flips a dart up to his hand, ready to throw when it peeps out.
Attack: 15 Damage: 6
((Crocodiles and lizards aren't terribly closely related, actually! Lizards are more closely related to snakes, and crocodiles more closely related to birds than they are to each other!))
Ok, you both move back as described as ready your weapons for some pretty nasty attacks should something come out of the carriage.
The lizard or whatever is in the carriage now starts to lose it. 10 You would think that whatever is in there would make a more dramatic entrance, but either way, the creature bursts forth from the carriage, kind of pushing the crates out of the way. I have added it to the 'bestiary' tab and named it as we all know what it is meta.
Immediately upon coming out of the carriage, it takes a crossbow bolt in the body from Ben's readied shot and it lets out a cry of pain as its blood spurts.
Let me know if I have this next part right. Will have to get your thoughts on this before I process Ess's move.
Korrik, as you have your attack readied and will be triggering it now, you'd be looking at the beast as it comes out. It would also see you, and so I think you'd have to immediately make that CON save. I don't think at this point you'd know to look away yet, even after having it happen to you when it was in the carriage. Or, you might not even want to look away, because I think if you look away it will nullify the readied attack. Since you wouldn't be looking at it to try and shoot it. Or, at minimum make the readied shot with disadvantage.
So, I think either 1. roll the CON save, and if passed, the readied attack happens, or 2. you look away if you think Korrik would know to, and then make readied attack with disadvantage.
Ben, this will not affect you because you are farther than 30ft from the thing.
((Ha! Well Busren will hum you up another next round and if that fails...well he will find you a nice rich person's yard to live in. Try to strike a dignified pose, or maybe one that is easy to put a bird bath into your arms if that happens, it will really help the sell price.))

((LOL!))
Korrik, as you and the beast lock eyes for a split moment, you feel your skin begin to harden and your insides start to thicken up somehow. You're starting to turn to stone! You are restrained and must repeat the CON save at the end of your next turn. However, your keen reflexes and solid will allow you to throw your reactive dart with deadly accuracy, and it's a good chuck. It hits the creature in the neck, causing more blood to spurt.
Ess, hearing Korrik's warning, looks away and shoots an arrow blind hoping for a hit. "OH FORK! Are you serious!?" Attack: 5 Damage: 6 and even looking away, Ess is able to connect with his arrow. He must've used his peripheral vision! The arrow sinks deep into the creature, and it yelps out again.
Next round: Busren, Korrik, Lizard, Ess
Busren and Korrik are up! Korrik to make the CON save at the end of his restrained turn.
Map is updated!
Thing's got a dart, a crossbow bolt, and an arrow stuck in it.

((Provided that's enough...)
"Oh, spoons!"
Korrik hops down and backs up, wracking his brain as to what that might be.

((give me some time to pull a map together. This was unexpected. lol!))

"A lizard?"
Busren asks helpfully.
"So like the crocodiles? We can beat those."
(Forgot to add disadvantage to the roll, it was an 18.)
