With Komos fleeing Varn was the one closest to fleshy insectoid creature. It drops from the ceiling and slashes on to Varn. The creature had no eyes but had incredible senses. Mere trickery was not going to fool it. Varn felt a stinging pain in his chest and looked down to see an X shaped gash appear. Then with a spray of blood he passes out. The two illusionary Varns look at each other confused.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Varn instinctively radiates a magical pulse when he feels the pain, pushing the attacker away. While it is not enough to stop the second attack, the first one misses by a scale's thickness, and Varn manages to remain standing, though barely.
Pulling out a leaf of sumac, he blows on it to set it ablaze. Then, Varn slashes once at the enemy who attacked him. "You'll burn down before me!" He shouts.
Reaction: Shield, raising his AC to 21. The crit hits regardless, but the first attack misses, which means Varn is still up with 6 HP.
BA: Cast Flame Blade. Action: Attack with the flame blade. Attack: 15 Damage: 14. If someone is next to the enemy at the moment (I'm not quite sure where Komos is), then he'll have advantage, and here's the second roll: 19.
Sniv sees Varn get attacked and growls furiously. Realizing that they are stronger together, Sniv rushes forward and attempts to get closer to the dangerous creature while swiping at it with two claws and then trying to bite it if possible.
Pounce. If the deinonychus moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 12 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the deinonychus can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.
Komos, now no longer alone, turns back towards the creature and shoots out a flaming pellet towards it, then reactivating his cannon to help the others.
Yes. More or less his last spell slot, but otherwise it's also a waste of the Flame Blade.
Once again, Varn raises his hand, and magical energy booms from him, pushing the mantis just a tiny bit backwards, enough to cause the attacks, and possibly others, to miss.
The mantis swings again at Varn but with its attack blocked it turns its attention to Dino-Snive and slashes across the creatures face in a devastating cut.
Varn starts to feel his powers getting weaker, too weak to create powerful effects. No, that's too early. He can push himself further, at least a bit more. As he draws the last of his magical strengths, ready to use in a moment's notice, Varn tries to burn the mantis with his burning leaf.
BA: Font of Magic, expending 2 Sorcery Points for a 1st level spell slot.
Action: Attack with the flame blade. Attack: 19 Damage: 11.
The mantis evades most of Dino-Sniv's attacks and gets very agitated. It knocks Sniv back and begins tearing in to him, putting Sniv out of wild shape and then continuing to slash. Meanwhile it ignores the attacks from Varn and Komos even though they both hit and do some serious damage.
Sniv falls to the ground in fear when his shifted form comes apart revealing the small kobold. Eyes wide with fear, Sniv feels a bubble of anger from within him as his teeth elongate once more and his claws regrow. Within seconds Sniv is once again in his Deino form and slashing away at the monster.
As Varn's blade makes contact with the creature it immediately counter-attacks Varn with its scythe. However the Kobold manages to dodge out of the way just in time. Komos then hits the creature in the head with his bead and just like that, it drops. It seems that another, more subtle property of this creature is that it is extremely hard to tell how much longer it will last in combat. All throughout combat up until the moment it collapsed in a heap and started to ooze green blood beneath it, it felt like the creature had barely been hurt in any way that mattered.
The room goes silent once more now that the creature is dead.
Sniv breathes a sigh of relief. "That was close. I thought we were gonna die for sure." As Sniv talks he has an idea and begins to approach the bedroom that the creature was in, "It must have been defending something right? What could possibly be in here?" He doesn't look around properly just yet, but he starts moving towards the bedroom doorway.
