Vanys breathes a sigh of relief as his allies all come back to consciousness and the last of the enemy is dispatched. A frown pokes at the corner of his lips as he tries to understand why the last man took his own life. It takes a special kind of conviction to make the ultimate sacrifice for a cause, any cause. With Red searching the corpses, Vanys decides to check ahead. Keeping a dagger in each hand, he attempts to slip into the shadows beyond Red's torchlight and check ahead to see where the shouting may have disappeared to. He leaves no room for argument as he simply says, "I am going ahead. I'll send a message back in a moment."
"Stupid silly.… "Mia lets out a deep sigh after seeing the last zealot kill himself for the frost maiden. "Don't know how precious your life is, and sacrifice it for nothing" The exhaustion burdens on her shoulder feels heavier than ever. But their job is not done yet. The little elf drags her body and crosses the icy bridge toward injured friends. "Hey everyone! You okay? If it hurts too much. I have some magic fruits to heal you!"
>>Red
"Yeah. It was a lot. A lot tougher than I thought. But let's look at the bright side. There are only the big bad priests of Auril and our baldy fake warduke left. It will be much fun than just fighting with their henchmen. I have so many things to ask them!"
>>Vanys
"Be careful,Van…" Mia nods to the sorcerer. "Don't push too far.The leader of this pack should already know we are here."
Mihris looked with sadness at the carnage and sighed. "Terrible waste of life. Frostmaiden truly devastates these lands."She was glad, though, that at least Mathis was relatively safe now. Was not that the sign of Eldath's care? She wanted to think it was. "Maybe we should go with Vanys. You are right, Mia, everyone here already knows about our presence. No point of separating even for scouting anymore."
"People die.. its just how it is. The choice is why and how. They made theirs, and we took them for our own reasons-It was worth it for them. Just the way life is. Its not fun but deal with implications if we're not dead in a few d ays." Red comments as he sorts through the bloodied bodies.
"Alone is quite dangerous, keeping an eye out while we sort this is a good plan. Were they all just waiting in that side room as guards? Break room? "
Red is busy, but if V wants to scout, that room they piled out of is a good one to check.. incase someone's hiding, or supplies. We are quite in a rough spot.
Red takes account of the scene, inevitably staining his hands red with the cold blood that covers the floor. Most of the cultists only wear a frayed and old poncho-like large cloth over themselves, with nothing but a belt, breeches and boots below — signs of frostbite over their fingers, elbows, and faces are clearly visible now that they're still. The leftovers of scroll he burned before it could be used he is now able to analyze under torchlight and conclude it once held the spell Shatter — and the clever artificer concludes was aimed at destroying the ice bridge they've just crossed with the intruders above it. Aside from the stained white and blue robes of their order and rusty old scimitars, Red finds nothing of particular use with the cultists, but while analyzing the tapestry to the side, the artificer finds a small alcove dug into the stone behind it, and two familiar thin vials of liquid resting there, potions of healing.
On the back of the group, Gaoch helps Mathis up and seems glad that he's alive after these close calls. Both the scouts look at the rest of the group with determination, their blades at the ready and nodding as the group investigates ahead.
As Vanys creeps ahead alone into the shadows despite some protest, the sorcerer eventually enters a small and cold dormitory room, with metal sheet bunk beds chained to the walls and barely any room left for comfort. Even personal belongings are scarce, including bad drawings, eerie prayers scribbled over crumbled parchment, and other decorations like crude scrimshaws and old clothes. Now that the contents of the rooms were scanned, the sorcerer attunes his senses to the nearby room as an eerie blue light shines through the gaps on the door and the small holes made by Red's acid — shadows move around the room and some kind of heated argument is going on, with mentions off "<...> I'm worthy of her blessing!" and "<...> and I'm the one who started this!" along with "Wolves at the ready on a moment's <...>", as at least four different voices alternate between accusations.
Yay healing potions. How do I verify they are in fat healing and not poison?
Also assuming the two are healing potions... How do we want to disbursement? Red is hurt, so are the other two. I think the rest are not. Red's probably the most defensive abled though I'm not sure how hurt those two are exactly. It might just be Red at half and whatever Mathis is at, as Gaugh did get some healing.
Mihris would insist for Red to take the potions (and confirm - hopefully a priest can do it - that these are indeed healing potions). She would also urge everyone to follow Vanys, gods know what can happen there.
Vanys sends a message back to the others. "All clear in this room. I can hear voices though, so stay quiet." He attempts to listen next to the door and identify how many voices he can hear from the other room.
(OOC: Is there a curtain to Vanys's South that leads elsewhere? Or are those the bunk beds?)

"So they are still arguing?" Mia rolls her eyes in shock and amusement. " Those guys are either too bold or too stupid. I would have complained, if we were not a group of intruders about to assault them. Alright,it'll be rude not to give them a surprise then." The little elf follows the others. She pays attention to how her friends walk. Taking careful steps so that she won't slip on the icy floor.

The same motiffs — ice, snow, owls, etc.)) ((Due to their knowledges and spellcasting abilities, Mihris, Mialee, and Red are all able to identify the liquids as being two potions of healing (2d4+2), mostly due to similarities in smell and appearance to other potions they've seen before. The only differences would be in the vials of old scratched glass lacking any labels. If you want to further scrutinize their contents, gimme an Arcana or Nature check and 1 minute.))
As Vanys leans in to listen on the voices, you are able to more clearly identify them:
Voice 1 (feminine, fanatic) "I was born with the gift! I am the <...>" Voice 2 (masculine, authoritary) "<...> matters not. I gathered the flock! I will do <...>" Voice 3 (masculine, gruff) "<...> up your damned minds! You're wasting my time!" Voice 4 (masculine, soothing) "<...> not worth it, love. Just let him <...>"
The group steps into the room. However, as Mialee approaches, her feet bumps on a lying scimitar and it clatters to the floor. The voices all suddenly stop briefly, followed by garbled shouts of "<...> are here!" "<...> time, give it to me!" "<...> don't!" as the blue light shining through the gaps and holes on the west door shines brighter, building up to an eerie humming as the temperature in the room clearly drops and thin sheets of ice form at the corners of the door.
((Forgot the info. Mathis is at 6/11, Gaoch is at 5/11. You folks are all full, except Red, who is at 4/10. Correct me if I'm wrong.))
Vanys gestures to the others by holding up four fingers to represent the four voices that he heard inside. With a dagger in one hand, and his other hand clutching a small twig in his pouch, Vanys raises his eyebrows as if to ask the others, "Are we ready to go?" If the group gives a nod, Vanys will shove the door open with one hand and release his prepared spell with the other.
Action: Ready (Readying the Casting of Witch Bolt on the feminine voice that he heard if and only if the party agrees that they are busting through the door now.
Free Action: Open Door
(OOC: Not sure how this works... But the goal was for Vanys to get a spell off as his reaction in the round before the surprise round (Round -1) and then still get his turn in the surprise round. If that isn't possible, then Vanys will just take his turn in the surprise round (assuming we get one...))
(OOC: Wow... I just completely missed that last paragraph in @coelhogerge's last post... Let me rewrite this.)
Realizing that they no longer have time, Vanys's eyes widen when Mia kicks the scimitar. He doesn't give pause as the half-elf pushes the door open immediately brandishing his daggers. "Sorry to break up your little party, but I'm too hot to let your frost slow me down."
(OOC: Also, Vanys isn't quite at full... He is 11/13 because he took 2 damage from the avalanche encounter.)

Think Red was 5/10. I think I took a 5 hit earlier.
If we had time prior to their awareness. I think Red would have had the two melee skirmishers take the potions of healing. and he'd remain at his wounded state.
Would we have had time for those two to have drank them?
Mia ducks her head as the crashing sound echoes through the cave. "…sorry. " She murmurs. The little elf takes the shield and draws the scimitar. Mia has had enough to stay back and see her friends get injured. This time she will stand in the front line. Standing beside Vanys, the elf girl says. " Hello my friends! Did you miss me!"

With barely enough time as the sorcerer advances towards the door, Mialee blesses herself and both Mathis and Gaoch nod in thanks to Red as they down the healing potions swiftly.

When Vanys opens the damaged door, the eerie blue glow fills the previously dark room you're in, bringing along a biting cold air that chills you to the bone. Inside the western room you see the owners of the voices you heard, a startled Gerard looks at you over his shoulder with wide-open eyes, the pale girl Ionna struggles with the fake Warduke Emial, both grasping a frozen object — a humanoid heart — which glows fierce blue. Nearby, the only new face is a rugged mountain of a woman covered in hides and wearing a wolf head pelt over her own, holding a wicked two-handed axe as she almost growls menacingly at you.
Gerard was clearly trying to come between the struggle of his companions, but with the newcomers he now occupies himself with drawing his dagger and turning around, he shouts at you as he grasps the blade "You really shouldn't have come here!". Ionna and Emial both try to take the frozen heart from each other's grasp, almost coming to open blows. The other woman seemed bored at the conflict and welcomes your intrusion eagerly, with weapon in hands. The western wall has a crudely carved symbol of an owl's head and a ceremonial stone bowl below it. There seems to be another door on the southern wall, just out of your current sight.
