After waiting for a few of the lesser races to respond, Umbraxas speaks in Common with a heavy Draconic accent, "I am Umbraxas. Bahumat has sent me here to prove my worth." He closes his mouth and doesn't speak again as he listens to the babble that ensues. Internally, he is still seething at his punishment. That last bit he said was hard to get out without choking up in anger. Setting his anger apart, he listens to the other creatures speak and carry on their conversations seemingly without taking a single breath. He watches with princess with barely veiled contempt. She was a vile breed of dragonkin. He turns his attention back to the others after giving her a sour side-eye. He is almost amazed at how fast they carried the conversation. Did they ever take a moment to think and ponder? A small hint of a bemused grin creeps across his face. If he only lived for a short amount of time like the people around him, he would probably rattle off words as fast as they do as well.
((I promise I'm not being a d*ck when I refer to everyone being lesser. I'm just RPing how Umbraxas thinks))
Polly looks up at Umbraxas and quirks and eyebrow, appraisingly. She smirks on the other side of her face, out of view, and goes back to listening to the interrogation.
"It seems we are seriously considering tackling this challenge together, so don't let me put of this surprise. People seem to like it when they get a heads up when you change appearances" and drops disguise self. You see a human man, about 40 years old, with dark brown hair to his shoulders and a beard. He wears studded leather armor under nice clothes, and looks somewhat like a diplomat.
"I might be some help with some of the things polly described. Sounds like just another day at the office. No mind reader though. Have seen some forgery in my day so I would love to check the forgery you" looking at brightmoon "make to see if it is any good."
Lirah looks up from the letter, then looks at Brightmoon "Will you be able to copy his handwriting?" Then towards Polly "The leader's house is somewhere in the eastern part of the town, but he does not like being bothered."
Mason enjoys the discussion and the displays of disguise and skill. He turns to Polly, "Your abilities in the arts of disguise are amazing. It is possible we can get to the King as you say." turning again to the Princess (yes another question because it still isn't resolved) "But once there what makes us think he will listen to us? I am an acolyte and a grandson of Dwarven King Oindale. My name is Mason Downy. I can pass as a high level tutor or butler if needed. Still not sure why the King would listen to us if he wont listen to close family."
"You guys seem... capable of doing it, plus most of you seem intimidating enough. I don't think his madness will end, but hopefully he will help us stop this war. He was never like this before the war, he was my kind, beloved father, around the time the war started, he became this sociopath."
Brightmoon turns to Caya "Should we go buy supplies then?"
Then to Polly "Do you want to join us and try to get a look at this leader? I will see if there are any servents that I can try and disguise myself and Halfast to look somewhat like to fool the casual observer."
"I've never seen this leader before, and don't know who they are, so I'd need to get eyes on them to imitate them. Maybe while you buy your forgery kit and forge the letter, we can scope out the house if you can tell us where it is, I can see what they look like, and then we regroup to head to the castle to try this. My hunch? We just need to show up and see what's going on with the king and any plan we had before will get thrown out the window. I'm guessing there's more going on here than we think."Polly grins a little crazily, and mutters to herself for a beat, and then returns to the group. When Tuner drops his disguise she does a funny double-take, and then gives two thumbs up, approving of the chaos.
"Sounds like the best plan we can have. First do the field work for a better in, I'm always up for getting to know the local leadership, you never know when that comes in handy. Then go see whats up with the king for ourselves so we can plot our best course of action. Let's Go!"
Caya nods to Brightmoon. "I'm ready when you are."
Then, to Polly, "If you can disguise yourself, than you could probably disguise yourself as a servant or guard to get in. Or, as Mason here is the grandson of the dwarven king, he may be able to gain an audience with the leader of the city, provided he can think of a decent reason to want to meet him. You could go along as his servant or something."
Mason laughs "I don't have any official papers and I'm 27th in line for the throne. Not sure that would help much. I make a better butler or official than a royal. I'm the 5th son of a duchess whatever that means. I think I'm allowed to call myself a 'Baron' or some such rot, but I never paid much attention to that. The access to higher learning was wonderful though." He makes castle in the air with his arcane talents. "I love this stuff!"

"One's lineage is quite useful to know. I, for example, am cousin to Fredegar Proudfeet, who's godsmother is Lobelia Bolger. Then again, taxes are quite interesting as well."
"My mother was very good with plants, and my father, I'm told, was the third-best carpenter in the village,"Polly says. "You definitely don't know their names. Back to the present, maybe it's best we don't impersonate the leader of the city. Is it a lord or lady, a mayor or thrall? We don't even know. So impersonating them seems like it would fail, and we'd be trying to negotiate for time with the king from the dungeon. Maybe we try meeting with him with the letter, as representatives of the leader of the city. What's their name, princess? Anything you know that we can work into the forgery?"
Polly looks at the others. "I've only just met you all, but we're all here to stop the war. Okay, let's give it a shot. How about you all go get the forgery kit and practice his handwriting. I, and whoever wants to join me, will go to Rhun's house, and try to get a peep at him. I'll make myself look like someone enticing and maybe he'll come to the door. If it doesn't work and I don't see him, then we can try the group-of-representatives thing."She raises her eyebrows, inviting anyone who's interested to come along.
"We might try to get an audience with him to figure out some details about him to help in the forgery and getting in. We could say we have heart some rumors about the location of the princess, that should certainly catch his attention". Tuner turns to the princess "of course we wouldn't share anything about your actual whereabouts. Anyway, I would certainly be tagging along to his house"
(Not sure if my OOC question about whether Polly has seen the city leader at all, well enough at least to disguise herself as them.)
Back when introductions were still a thing-

(No, you have not seen the leader)

I have a weird sense of humor.
I also make maps.(That's a link)

"His name is Rhun, but all I know about his handwriting is that it is crisp clean."
"Do you know how much sway Rhun would hold with the king? Would the king listen to the bearers of a letter with Rhun's name on it?"
