(nat 2's aren't critical misses in 5e (critical, in that they always miss no matter what other modifiers you add), though anything under a 10 probably does miss this huge thing anyhow)
((That's what I was basing it on... the idea of critical misses in general are kinda scrapped in 5e. Pretty sure it says that even a Nat1 can pass if the modifier is high enough and the DC (or AC) is low enough.))
((5e treats 1s like this: 1's are always critical misses in combat, but there are no "critical fails" in a skill check. If you make a skill check that's a 1 and have a +12 modifier, a 13 is a 13 no matter what your dice rolled. But if you make an attack or a spell attack and roll a 1, it's an automatic miss all the time.))
Lostur you turn to see the swirling waters looming over you and loose two eldritch blasts. They slam into the elemental with force punching holes in the creature and causing some obvious discomfort.
Lorvax your first swing goes wide but the second slashes deeply into the raging elemental, spraying water across the nearby lawn. You pivot and try to land a blow with the pole but again the water shifts and your weapon finds only air.
Kray your blade swipes forward missing by bare inches, but you make up for the disappointment on the second strike as you stab deeply into the elementals watery body drawing forth a gurgling howl of pain.
Lostur and Kray the elemental rises up and surges toward you, threatening to overwhelm you within its swirling waters. Both make a DC 15 Strength saving throw; On a failure, a target takes 13 bludgeoning damage and is grappled and starting to drown.
Brenvull once the results of the above attack have played out you release your bless spell as described.
((PHB RAW : If the d20 roll for an attack is a 1, the attack misses regardless of any modifiers or the target's AC. The part that has become optional and little used in 5e are the consequences of a Nat 1 beyond the miss itself))
Lostur: 12, damn it! That was a 13 minus 1! XD WAIT I'M BLESSED! 1 -> 13! Thank you Brenvull! Wait! The DC is 15! NUTS!
Lostur, despite his hurried retreat, is still nearly engulfed by the elemental. His face is a riot of panic as he's absorbed by the elemental. It's not without its consequences, though -- the elemental takes 15 cold damage from his Armor of Agathys.
(Lostur did run away so if Kray isn't absorbed, I guess she gets an opportunity attack when it chases after him)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Bolstered by her own attacks, Kray keeps on the preassure on the elemental being. She growls and keeps her focused on taking it down as soon as possible This is only a distraction and they need to find and stop that witch.
Grimacing in anger at being bathed against his will, Lostur bursts out of the water with a roar. He turns around and slashes at the elemental furiously. "I've managed to avoid bathing for centuries, you cretin! How very dare!!!"
Kray your attacks hit home with vicious accuracy and then Lostur you burst from within the elemental and turn to attack dealing huge amounts of damage to the flailing creature.
Finally Lorvax surges in with a flurry of attacks that decimate the creature. With a final effort you reverse your pole and bring it down only to find that the elemental has dissolved away to little more than a puddle. You all watch as the water flows across the ground and back into the pool beneath the fountain. A few seconds pass and then a rather rude sound comes from the water as the creature returns to it elemental home. The garden now grows quite again as you stand before the double doors.
Brenvull you notice that the teleportation circle is starting to glow again. Not strong enough yet to use but it will not be long.
"It seems the teleportation circle is starting to recharge. We should beware of danger behind us, let us quickly check what is behind this door and then move up again"
(( Should I interpret the "teleportation circle"-remark as a: You expect this is the way up, or as: You can almost go back down 😅 ))
"We risk to awake yet another defense of the tower. May I suggest to focus on finding the elf and stop her? Then we could check the rest of the doors..."
Lostur shrugs. "I was thinking we'd find neat stuff in here that would mess up her plans. But I'm also okay with rushing up there. Like a race! Except we're going to be outta breath when we get to the hardest part." He scratches his head. "But I was already outta breath right here and it turned out fine, so why not?"
(Can we short rest while waiting for the teleportation circle to light up again, if we don't want to explore? Me and my 2 spell slots are all for that XD)
