You have been traveling for the past few days as members of a caravan from the town of Irl (also known as Jeweler's Paradise) towards Gallard, a town known for its skilled crafstmen. The caravan was nearing the Burntbridges ford and preparing to cross the Selptan river when it was ambushed by bandits. Armored horsemen, supported by archers and spellcaster took control of the main wagons. Seeing that the caravan was lost, you managed to run away.
Some of the bandits have been following you southward. The chase has been going on for hours, you are tired and hunger is hard to ignore for much longer. About an hour ago the bandits turned back, apparently giving up, but they may be preparing for another ambush.
Two abandoned castles are in the area near you; the ruins of Halark's Stonefist and the Blackturrents. Other caravan members mentioned them when you were still travelling together. Not far away you notice smoke coming up, suggesting that the small village of Selp is very close.
Time to introduce yourselves and tell the others why were you part of the caravan. Meanwhile I will ask for three rolls: - intelligence (History) check. - intelligence (Nature or investigation) check - constitution saving throw.
Freyja Snowblade is a quiet young woman, who always seems to be lost in thought. Any attempts to get her to open up have resulted in one or two-word responses. It's a wonder anyone was able to get a name out of her to begin with. She was travelling with the caravan as a guard--she works as a sell-sword--and she seems to be enraged that a group of bandits were able to get the better of her.
History: 9 Nature: 1 Constitution Save: 21 (should be 13, I accidentally just did a straight Con roll)
Ryo fixed the hair that had fallen loose earlier in the chase from the bandits, the half-elf's curly white locks falling like soft silver strands over his shoulders, and one by one he put back on the shiny gold jewellery in his hair, making one wonder how he still managed to keep his pace brisk and light while wearing these extra ornaments.
“Hey,” seeing the smoke coming from not far away, Ryo cheerfully announces, “isn’t that the town the others talked about… Selp?”
Nonetheless, he’s very glad that they managed to get away from the bandits without a scratch. The whole reason he made his way in the caravan was to keep his head low for a while after his 'scandal' with the Marquis - looking for some jobs outside of the city, and it didn't matter where.
Ryota finished his travel munchies and water, bemused at Ryo's fussing with his hair. Ryota kept his own ebon locks tied back sensibly in a pony tail
That village over there is in the right direction. We can probably find shelter there for the night, and get a better idea of where we are...
Ryota checked his gear, quite happy that he packed for travel in the wilderness. His abbot had sent him to Selp to find out more of the villagers sudden fascination with cats.
You continue on the road towards the smoke ahead. It looks the normal amount for a small town, not the giant cloud that would indicate that the town has been razed.
The road passes between a wheat field and tall bushes leading into a forest. Ryota notices that the area is eerily quiet. No birds sing, and no animals wander around.
As you keep walking, Freyja notices a pair of eyes looking at you from the bushes some 20 feet ahead.
Freyja hold out her arm to signal for her companions to stop. "Someone in the bushes," she says. She tries to get a better sense of what is looking at them. Perception: 20
Soon after Ryota speaks, a human woman stumbles out of the bushes holding a shortbow. Her eyes are unfocused, but she still aims her bow at the three of you. A black bear emerges from the bushes near you lifting a paw as if to strike.
"Now you said it, maybe?" Ryo squints his eye at Ryota's comment, but honestly it didn't strike him as too odd - "could be normal for the village though, who knows. People are probably taking afternoon naps. I don't expect it to be too busy, being a small town like this..."
Ryo stops mid-sentence as Freyja signalled them to stop. "Not the bandits again..." He murmurs, fiddling his hair, worried to have it messed up again.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
All right, spread out, be ready to defend ourselves, but let's try talking first?
Ryota steps forwards 10 feet, presents his shield, raising his right hand palm out, holding his mace in his left hand behind his shield ready for a quick grab should the need arise.
The bear bites Ryota before the combined efforts of the group put it down. The archer on the road was acting weirdly for the whole fight, not even reacting to sword or arrow wounds.
Looking at her, she's wearing simple clothes and has a belt with looped strings hanging from it. You would guess that she was out hunting for small animals.
Lathlander, please watch over this our unknown sister, and guide her in the underworld that she may find peace and redemption...
Ryota cleans off his mace, sensing an opportunity lost. To the others - That was weird. The way her gaze never wavered, it's almost as if she were being compelled somehow, maybe with a Control spell? Anyone need more healing?

“Let’s check.” Ryo says. He puts his bow away and takes some gauze out of his backpack, wrapping around the wound on his arm, tightening it with a knot pulled using his teeth, he lets out a grunt as he feels the wound has been properly addressed. He approches the woman’s body and starts searching her pockets.
The road appears to be empty, and no birds are flying nearby. But after the fighting noise you would not expect them to come close so soon. The wheat field next to the road seems uneven, some parts have grown half a foot taller than others.
Searching the woman, Ryo finds a pouch full of arrowheads and another with 3 silver pieces. She's wearing brown clothes, designed to blend in with the tree trunks and had a dagger tucked in her belt.
You remember that the bandits that ambushed your original caravan were all wearing a yellow armband with a black wyvern. She's not carrying anything of those colors.
Ryota still has that queasy feeling that they could have handled that encounter better :(
Dressed in camoflauge like a ranger or a druid...Good question Freyja - We're strangers in these parts, and we attacked her bear. Perhaps she was expecting trouble and thought we were it? If she's from around here we might have some explaining to do...Ryo, do you have some extra guaze? Also, do we break here now, or keep going to the village over yonder?

Is it just me or are things a little too quiet? It's been a while since I've seen any animals or birds or farmers.
Good eye, Freyja, what do you see?

OOC: making Freyja a bit more talkative so I have more things to post.
Freyja sheathes her blade. "Not with the bandits, then? Good, but it's still strange. Why would she attack us like that?"
