Does anyone know where to find any official creature templates (such as the shadow template for dragons) that I and a fellow new DM can apply to creatures in our campaigns?
I am fine with homebrewing up some but I was wondering if there wasn't anything more official that we could look at, such as a Fey template or whatnot. Through all of the books I have only been able to find the one so I was wondering if I was just passing over them like a blind fool.
This would be a very helpful Unearthed Arcana topic. Right now my group just homebrews with whatever is standard racial abilities of different creature types.
I would love to see some more official support for things like fey creatures, abberations, etc. It would help when running a game with a particular theme like "a trip to the court of Oberon and Titania" or "colors out of the far realm"

I agree on that. While it's easy enough for me to build templates that are fairly interesting and balanced for my campaign my friend, who isn't as experienced, is having trouble filling out the encounters with a good variety of creatures. For instance our party has been unceremoniously spewed into the Feywild by an arse of a villain. While there our brewing barbarian wants to make some sort of fancy "Feybrew" and is trying to collect enough ingredients to make such a thing. Right now he is after honey, and of course there are stats for thing like Giant Wasps, but what about Fey Bees? Guess we will just have to come up with something. It seems like it would just be easier to have an already made template to add to the wasp creature or swarm without having to go through papers and homework to see if it's not overpowered.
There's several templates in the MM. Half-dragon, shadow dragon, and vampire are all MM entries which include templates. There's, I think, one or two more in there? Can't remember off the top of my head.
You can also sort of treat the NPC traits thing in the DMG as a way of using one statblock to mod another as a template. Really simple to make hybrid creatures by using that standard to combine traits of misc. animals.
Any idea how to add a template to the current character sheet?
I'm talking about manually by adding modifiers or otherwise?
e.g., the Monster Manual entry for Vampire has a sidebar that states: if a character becomes a true vampire - they have min. 18 in STR, DEX, CON, plus immunities, plus traits, actions, etc...

I don't think there are official template. You may just deduce a kind of template from the MM.

The problem with a template is that even all the Feys have little in common. Some have the Magic resistance, like dryads and satyrs but that's it.
For a Fey Bee, I would give it some traits of the sprite (invisibility) and/or a spleeping effect for the poison.
