My wizard cast Mirror Image on himself. Then, an enemy magically put my wizard to sleep. Mirror Image is not a concentration spell, so the duplicate images remained. Now, one of my allies needs to use an action to wake me up. How would they determine the correct person to wake up? And would they destroy duplicates in the process?
Duplicates are unaffected by any effects and mechanics that aren't attack rolls, so either 1) you automatically succeed on picking the real PC because there is no attack roll to redirect, or 2) you roll to see if you are awakening the real PC and the effort fails if you target a duplicate, since you are targeting the PC with your mechanic, even if there is no attack roll.
#1 is probably closer to the RAW, but I could see a DM going with #2 for the theme of the spell.

The duplicates can only be destroyed by attack. You can explain how everything else works however you want.

I just realized I only answered half the question.
Yeah, mirror image only redirects attacks, not any other actions.
