So, due to the RAW of reliable talent and how Jeremy Craeford weighted in on how wording for it works, does this also effect attack roles? I told my players it doesn't work because attack roles aren't skill checks. They argue that sense you technically add your proficiency bonus (in the case for the weapon proficiency) that reliable talent works with it. I feel this is incorrect.

Yea that would be a hard NO. Ability checks is a different category of roll to Attack rolls (with Saving throws being the third category).

Reliable talent does not affect attack rolls. They are never described as ability checks or as a sub category.

What they said. Attack rolls are explicitly different from ability checks.
For example, hex does not impose disadvantage on attacks or saves.
