The Mastery of Death feature lets you expend a ki point when you drop to 0 hp to instead have 1 hp. Power Word Kill says that if the target has 100 or fewer hp, it dies. Since there isn't an explicit "drop to 0 hp" I'd say that it doesn't prevent the spell from working.

So, if the Long Death monk were to use the ki point to 1 hp ability, power word kill would not kill?
No, that is the opposite conclusion that the thread came to in 2021. The conclusion is power word kill doesn't drop you to 0, it kills you outright, so the monk ability has no effect on that spell.
Would the Way of the Long Death ability the Long Death Monk gets at 11th level prevent Power Word Kill from working?

Yep, Power Word Kill is special in that it just outright kill target. No hp drop, no death saves, etc. Target just dies if spell conditions are met.

Oh, thank you, I need to change my class then (battle royale will not turn out good for me)
