Brand new to the world of D&D after getting caught up in Critical Role. Me and a group of work friends are about to start our first adventure. Nobody has played before and I'll be the DM.
After purchasing and reading through the Lost Mine of Phandelver, I was looking at the pre-made character sheets and noticed the weapon attack bonus of the Cleric's Warhammer.
Question is, with the Cleric being proficient in using the Warhammer, would the roll be a D20 + Strength Modifier (+2) + Warhammer Atk Bonus (+4) + Proficiency Bonus (+2).....or is the Proficiency Bonus already included in the attack bonus? (Obv applies to all PC's who are proficient in a weapon and not just the cleric)
It just seems a lot to be adding 8 to the result of the D20.
Hi all.

Sorry for the newbie question.
The war-hammer attack bonus includes already the Strength modifiers and the Proficiency bonus, for a total of +4.
Thank you for the answer Filcat. Perfect.
I hope forum rules have been followed and this question was asked in the correct place.
