I'm looking through magic items for my players [I'm the DM] as treasure to give them and I see alot of "wizard, sorcerer, warlock, bard" attunement requirements but very few options for artificers that want to use a staff. Would they be able to attune to a staff that they have made if the RAW for that item says Artificers can't attune to it? Or did I miss something in the Features of the artifcer that would allow them to ignore attunement requirements?
This is largely because most of these magic items were created before Artificers were an actual class, so they couldn't call out artificers by name. Technically, lower level artificers can't attune to these items, but if the item seems thematic enough, I as a DM would waive that requirement.
Starting at level 14, though, artificers gain this feature, which allows them to ignore requirements, RAW.
You ignore all class, race, spell, and level requirements on attuning to or using a magic item.
Magic staves are geared toward Full Casters. There are a lot of magic capable classes and sub-classes that are excluded from lists like those, regardless of the timeline of their introduction. For more general prerequisites, the DMG uses "spellcasters".
