My DM (without consulting with me) thought it would be fun to introduce my character in session 1 (at level 1) by having the rest of the party watch me fight a hag, which cursed me as I killed it. To clarify, I was not participating in the fight, this was just the DM describing it to me and everyone else.
Apparently the hag was able to imprison me inside a diamond as I slew it (this is particularly heinous as my character has PTSD from being locked in a box for several months as a backstory). I spent a couple seconds that felt like an eternity inside the diamond, and popped back out. But now I can't move more than 5 feet from the diamond unless someone else is physically holding it, and I am randomly imprisoned in it now and again. I spent about an hour of our last session isolated and floating in nothingness. Not much fun.
I think the DM did this a bit of interesting flavouring that can explain my absence if I should miss a session - but given my character's backstory, and the fact that I just had a couple of guards throw my diamond in a lockbox and pummel me while I couldn't run away - my character is ready to try just about anything to break this curse. Problem is, I can't figure out how to do it. Any suggestions out there as to what this might be and how to end it? The DM plays mostly by the core rules, and we're doing CoS right now. I've looked around and I 'think' the hag the DM had me slay might have used a modified 9th level imprisonment spell... which I don't have a hope of removing. I'm now a level 3 fighter. There is no pattern to the imprisonment and releasing that I can discern...
There is only one way to fix this: talk to your DM about how what they are doing is impacting your enjoyment of the game in a negative way. If they don't then immediately help you find the fun by facilitating the removal of this curse/imprisonment/whatever, you find a new DM.
If the DM really wants to keep this diamond trap concept, perhaps try to negotiate a less irritating mechanic for it. Like ask if your increasing experience with the curse means that now you can carry the thing on a necklace yourself, and only disappear into it when your character is "willing", like when you are feeling mentally shook up and need some time alone (by which I mean you miss a gaming session). Perhaps the DM reserves the right for someone to steal your diamond and mess you up if they need that, but I feel you're well within your rights to ask for some independence.
Thanks guys. Sounds like it's less of a ' solve the puzzle' problem than it is a 'communicate with the DM' problem. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something stupidly obvious to break the spell.
