Thinking about making a lizardfolk druid and wondering how the purify food and drink spell works. Lizardfolk consider most humanoid races to be food, and prefer eating them alive, heck they even have a racial for feeding on people in combat. I plan on carrying around a bag of ointment/ spices to season captives before interrogating/ eating them (even if interrogation rolls fail, people would be highly encouraged to talk when silence means their extremities being eaten). Wondering if the purify food and drink spell would work on them before the interrogation or not, don't want to get diseased from eating a leper or somesuch. This is of course going to be a more evil-aligned group.
In general I would say the wording of the spell is for tradition items that are thought of as food and drink. I would not allow it on living targets even if your race considers them food and or drink. ie a Dhampire or Vampire could not use the spell on a human unless they were not living.
Also ask you GM if it is ok and or he can make an exception.
In general depending of the game setting and campaign I might not have an issue with your question but I can see some things that have happened in past games that might be an issue with just allowing you to use the spell as you want and or for RP purposes.

It is safe to say the spell wouldn't (shouldn't) work on a living creature since lesser restoration exists specifically for them.
Now if you were to cut a chunk off first, that's a different story.
