I am looking to make a Geomancer (haven't decided on Wizard, Druid, or Sorcerer just yet) and am probably going to focus on Maximilian's Earthen Grasp as well as taking the Crusher Feat to give myself more battlefield control.
Now, Maximilian's Earthen Grasp states that moving the hand would release the restrained target, presumably to prevent you from nabbing someone and dumping them off a cliff. However, the Crusher Feat allows you to move a target 5 ft. when you deal bludgeoning damage. So what would happen:
The target doesn't move: They can't be restrained and moved.
The target moves 5 ft. and the hand releases them.
The target AND the hand move the 5 ft. and the target remains restrained.
Crusher doesn't allow you to move a creature when you deal bludgeoning damage. It says:
Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an attack that deals bludgeoning damage, you can move it 5 feet to an unoccupied space, provided the target is no more than one size larger than you.
Maximilian's doesn't require an attack roll, so Crusher wouldn't apply
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
Crusher allows you to move the target 5' when you hit with an attack that deals bludgeoning damage. Maximilian's Earthen Grasp does not involve making an attack roll, it is save based, and so would not qualify as an attack. So Crusher would not apply. At least that is my understanding.
