If Fireball is cast at the edge of or into an area of magical Darkness, how does it affect the DEX save for those within the 20 foot radius sphere of effect who are also in magical darkness, and thus blinded?
A blinded creature can't see and automatically fails any ability check that requires sight.
Attack rolls against the creature have advantage, and the creature's attack rolls have disadvantage.
This says nothing about savings throws for those who are blinded (only ability checks). A Fireball is not an attack roll against the creature because there is no attack roll, only a savings throw. A DEX save would seem to assume a person is trying to dodge something they see. But if you're in magical darkness, you can't see the Fireball, right? Does a person within magical darkness and within the area of effect of a Fireball make a regular DEX save or do they have disadvantage?
I specified "at the edge of or into" the darkness because Fireball doesn't technically say it must be a point you see, but rather a point you "choose" within range and perhaps one could choose a spot in the middle of a patch of darkness without seeing it. But in any case, clearly a point could be chosen at the edge of Darkness and it would still extend 20 feet into that darkness.
My main question is what impact (if any) does the Darkness have on the saving throw of those within the Darkness and thus subject to the blinded condition at moment of explosion.
A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame.
You may not be able to see it if you're in darkness, but you can sure hear that there's something worth dodging happening Over There, and probably even feel the heat of it

My understanding is that a blinded condition imposes no modifier to the saving throw against fireball.
Also, a saving throw is not an ability check. You didn't say that it was, but just in case.
"Not all those who wander are lost"
This is one of the main advantages of being a caster. You can use an area of effect saving throw attacks when someone screws with to hit attacks.
Works great against invisible creatures, things in blindness, etc.
