If I'm under some kind of magical effect, such as a curse or polymorph, and I take a chunk of flesh from that body, will the clone be cursed or permanently under the polymorph spell, or would the magical effects only apply to my original body?
For example, if I polymorph a enemy into a rat, and took a piece of flesh from that rat to clone them, would the clone be their normal self, or the rat? (If they decided to use the clone) Also, if the clone is a rat, does it permanently remain a rat, or as the form was created by the polymorph spell, would it return to the original form shortly after awakening?
I'm aware that True polymorph exists, and if you have time to create clones you're likely to be able to cast the spell by the time your first clone matures. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking if casting a normal polymorph and then creating a clone from that morphed form could function as a permanent means of changing your body, without the risk of a antimagic Field returning you to your original form. (Without dealing with the randomness from being brought back to life by the Druids Reincarnate spell.)
In other words, would this idea of a much more expensive, but controled Reincarnate work?
It’s up to the DM, but from what it looks like if you are polymorph then you will have clone target the body of the transformation spell. If it is a curse, then that may be the same depending on the curse. If it’s Bestow curse, then your DM will determine if it is affected or not. Honestly, if you’re trying to escape the magical affect then Dispel Magic or Remove curse would be the best way to do it. That’s what I’m getting from your question.
