Normally yes, there isn't much of an mechanism for intercepting a weapon and it brings some questions with it if you allow it (can you intercept it on its way to the target or just when it comes back?).
There has been discussions about how returning weapons interact with a Monk's Deflect Missiles feature, afaik no consensus was reached but you should be able to find the thread(s) quite easily with a search.

The way I read examples like the dwarven thrower, it sounds like it can't be intercepted as it immediately returns to the thrower. Is this correct?
