The party Fighter adhered to a Mimic is grappled. The Warlock rushes to the Fighters aid and casts Thunder Step and touches the Fighter. * Bamf * They are teleported away, and the Fighter has broken the Mimic's grapple without having to take action to escape it.
Question:
Is this a legal action assuming that Thunder Wave weight constraint is not an issue? My thought is Yes, as it has some similar properties as Misty Step, but in this case, the Warlock can take a creature along for the ride. I could be missing something here, so I felt it best to ask.
Yes, a teleportation effect will break the grapple. A monster would have to have some specific wording in their abilities that prevented teleportation effects within their reach or something (which to my knowledge doesn't exist in any of the official WotC statblocks) for it not to work.
Teleportation is an effect that removes you from the reach of the grappler.
Grappled: The condition also ends if an effect removes the grappled creature from the reach of the grappler or grappling effect, such as when a creature is hurled away by the thunderwave spell.

Your DM may also let you shove your ally to break a grapple. Teleportation is basically a get out of restraint free card.
I am the DM in this case, and I let the play go through to keep things moving, but I wanted to ask post-game to see if I ruled it correctly
