As the DM for my campaign, I'm strongly considering adding 1 spell for 6th, 7th and 8th level bonus spells. I don't think it would unbalance things and thematically there are still spells at that level that seem like a given for the archetypes presented for Clerics, Druids, Warlocks, etc. There are enough spells even at those higher levels for each domain to have a selection. What do you guys think? Why is it that the domains in the phb only proceed to 5th level spells?
I believe that with the PHB and some supplement like Elemental Evil there are more enough spells to have fun and deal with every monster....of course with a bit of planning. What some DMs usually do, is to allow just a change in the damage type for some spells (example fireball becomes iceball)
In the PHB, usually the cleric domains stop at 5th because usually you cast spell of those level (1-5). Everything from 6th up it kind of exceptional... for big boss and big stuff. That is why the variety of spells is more concentrated in level 1-5
But D&D is a world of creation. You can create your own spells and that is awesome. in the DMG there are some guidelines...just do not overpower.
