A spell is generally always a normal spell, unless it says otherwise. Do you have the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide? The Duergar (Gray Dwarves) have spells in their racial traits that behave slightly differently to normal.
Spells granted by racial traits are still vulnerable to counterspell among other things.
I'm playing a race that has a spell as a racial trait. Does the trait count as a regular trait?
