Hello there! So here's the story: I'm a DM, this is my first time DMing, so I'm not familiar with everything but I'm usually good at looking up stuff. Anyway, one of my player is a Warlock of the Fiend patron, on a vengeance mission. The fiend is requesting a task be done in exchange, that's part of the deal.
Anyway, I won't go into the details too much, but soon in the campaign, I planned it so that the Warlock player will have to choose between going after their target of vengeance OR accomplish the mission their Fiend patron asked for. Like, both opportunities will show up at the same time and they'll have to pick one. And IF they go for the Fiend's mission, I want to reward the player with a specific item: A spell-storing item that contains a one use of the Summon Fiend spell!!! It'd be like "for your help, here's a way to summon me, once. Use it wisely", something like that! :p
Problem is, I can't find an "official" magic item that would really work. A Spell Scroll that is of a higher level than what they can cast has a failing risk, and I don't want to put that on the player! Like "you cast the spell that is literally linked to your backstory but because of the roll of the dice it does nothing and is wasted"; that's not fun! Then there'd be the Ring of Spell Storing, or the Spellwrought Tattoo. But those, officially, are limited to spells of level 5 at most, and the Summon Fiend spell is level 6!
Now, I know, I know, I can just homebrew a magic item, just make a level 6 Spellwrought Tattoo or something. And maybe that's what I'll do, but before I go that route, I was wondering if there was an official D&D magic item that would work for what I'm trying to do here. (Edit: also, which book and which page, so I can go look it up myself! :p )
Last time i was in similar situation i used an iron flask, its a magic item that contain a trapped fiend.
Other Consumable magic items that could hold a Summon Fiend spell could include scroll, tattoo, spell gem, potion, dust, tome, rod, staff or wand with charges that do not recharge, Supernatural Gift such as a Blessing or Charm, temporary Epic Boon, a fiendish version of a Bag of Beans that instead brings up fiend creature etc
Another one could be a fiendish version of an elemental gem;
Fiend Gem
Wondrous Item, uncommon
This gem contains a mote of fiendl energy. When you use an action to break the gem, a fiend is summoned as if you had cast the Summon Fiend spell, and the gem's magic is lost. The type of gem determines the fiend summoned by the spell.
If you want an official magic item - you could look at a Spell Gem. They are from the Out of the Abyss hardcover. You would need a topaz one for a 6th level spell.
"SPELL GEM
Wondrous Item, varies (requires attunement by a Spellcaster if Seeking to Imbue the Gem )
A spell gem can contain one spell from any class’s spell list. You become aware of the spell when you learn the gem’s properties. While holding the gem, you can cast the spell from it as an action if you know the spell or if the spell is on your class’s spell list. Doing so doesn’t require any components and doesn’t require attunement. The spell then disappears from the gem.
If the spell is of a higher level than you can normally cast, you must make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast it successfully. The DC equals 10 + the spell’s level. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the gem with no other effect.
Each spell gem has a maximum level for the spell it can store. The spell level determines the gem’s rarity and the stored spell’s saving throw DC and attack bonus, as shown in the Spell Gem table.
You can imbue the gem with a spell if you’re attuned to it and it’s empty. To do so, you cast the spell while holding the gem. The spell is stored in the gem instead of having any effect. Casting the spell must require either 1 action or 1 minute or longer, and the spell’s level must be no higher than the gem’s maximum. If the spell belongs to the school of abjuration and requires material components that are consumed, you must provide them, but they can be worth half as much as normal.
Once imbued with a spell, the gem can’t be imbued again until the next dawn.
Deep gnomes created these magic gemstones and keep the creation process a secret."
Don’t overthink it. Just say this scroll has no fail chance for this character. He’s a warlock getting something from his patron, it’s reasonable to say it is guaranteed to work for him, and only him.

I second this ---^, just give him a scroll and take away the chance for failure. Ez pz
