Does radiance of the dawn require rest (short or long)? I am confused because of the way it shows up on the character sheet. It looks like "turn undead" requires a short rest, but it's not listed that way for ROTD. This is for a lvl5 Cleric. Thank you.
Channel DivinityPHB, pg. 58
You can channel divine energy to fuel magical effects a number of times per short rest
Channel Divinity: (No Action)/Short Rest
Channel Divinity: Turn Undead: 1 Action
Channel Divinity: Radiance of the DawnPHB, pg. 61
As an action, you can use Channel Divinity and present your holy symbol to dispel any magical darkness within 30 ft. Additionally, each hostile creature within 30 ft. (that doesn't have total cover) must make a CON saving throw (DC 15) or take 2d10+5 radiant damage (half damage on success).
All Channel Divinity effects use the same resource. Your 5th level Cleric can use Channel Divinity once between short rests, choosing either Turn Undead or Radiance of the Dawn (or Harness Divine Power, if you have it from Tasha's Cauldron). If you use one, the usage of the other is used as well.
Its based off of channel divinity. So at say 6th level you can us Channel divinity 2/rest, that means you could either use it to turn undead 2/rest OR say a RotD 2/rest.... OR turn undead once and RotD once per rest.
Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to harness sunlight, banishing darkness and dealing radiant damage to your foes.

Thank you. I wish it displayed that way on the character sheet. ROTD appears as a completely separate paragraph.
Most/all electronic character sheets suffer from not being able to perfectly reflect the rules of an RPG.
It is always best for players to read the rules of their character's abilities, rather than relying on the character sheet to provide everything accurately.

And that was my next complaint. I left feedback on the DNDB feedback page. My books are on dndb. The character sheet references page numbers, but but the online book doesn't have page numbers. The referenced pages should be links to the pages.
In any event, and in this case, I did go through the section on channel divinity and ROTD, and it was (to me) still not clear. That's why I came here.
Channel Divinity: Radiance of the Dawn = 1 action to cast.
I just want to know if it lasts for a minuet like turn undead. Do I become a walking beacon of Pelor radiating sunlight for 30 feet in the sixth circle of hell Malbolge or not. <.< Wow that may be the geekiest thing I've ever typed in my life and I love it.
I just want to get some points of views because the mechanical difference is huge for me, since 1 minuet of brightening the pitch blackness of Malbolge and deterring the denizens of infinite vampires would be amazing.
It does not. It is an instantaneous effect. It dispels magical darkness and does damage to hostile creatures. Then it is done. It does not last 1 minute. If it did there would be a description of when the damage took place (on your turn or at the beginning of the hostile character's turn, etc) and explanation of if the Saving Throw took place when they entered the area or on their turn.
Take Moonbeam for example. "When a creature enters the spell’s area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it is engulfed in ghostly flames that cause searing pain, and it must make a Constitution saving throw. It takes 2d10 radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one."
So if I am standing 5 feet from a door, would ROTD travel through the door and still spread in the 30 foot radius?
The effect that dispels darkness will work through the door, but the door will provide any enemies behind it with total cover, so they are unaffected by the damage bit.
