Yo! So i have a drake warden that is getting to the fun levels soon and i wanted to know a few questions if anyone has ever come across them.
first question
7th level feature Drake Mount. The drake grows to Medium size. Reflecting your special bond, you can use the drake as a mount if your size is Medium or smaller. While you are riding your drake, it can’t use the flying speed of this feature.
if you cast enlarge on the drake or are the size of small could you then ride it? i know you could have it grapple you and fly but im not sure if its the size limiting it or the rules themselves
second question
Can you cast buffing spells on the drake? or does it share your buffs? it doesnt say yes or no so im assuming no it doesnt share your buffs but could stuff like aid or bless be casted on it?
third question
could it use magic items? or attune to magic items? if so does its bite attack count as unarmed? or a natural weapon?
fourth question
does it share your feats or ASIs? (im guessing no or up to table DM)
fifth question
does the dragon masks work on the the 11th level feature of the drakewaren? this part right here Dragon Breath. If you have a breath weapon that requires rest to recharge, it gains a recharge of 6.
Drake’s Breath
11th-Level Drakewarden Feature
As an action, you can exhale a 30-foot cone of damaging breath or cause your drake to exhale it. Choose acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison damage (your choice doesn’t have to match your drake’s Draconic Essence). Each creature in the cone must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC, taking 8d6 damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
This damage increases to 10d6 when you reach 15th level in this class.
Once you use this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest, unless you expend a spell slot of 3rd level or higher to use it again.
I think this would be up to the DM if it would allow to fly. By the feature it can’t use its fly speed. It’s a separate sentence to the size restriction so I don’t think it would matter even enlarged.
Second question
if a buff targets a creature the drake can be one of them. You don’t share buffs.
Third question
I don’t think the drake could attune to magic items but I could be wrong. I wouldn’t call the bite unarmed. Not sure if it is classified as natural weapon either in the stat block
Fourth question
it does not share feats/ASI’s. Though if you took the feat Mounted Combatant they would benefit like any other mount.
Fifth question
Not sure. I don’t have that book so can’t see the item to be sure. But I think it would work while wearing the mask. But if you were thinking of putting the mask on the dragon see third question’s answer
1. No, not by RAW. It's a fair case to make to your DM though. I'd allow it.
2. You can buff the drake with a spell. You wouldn't share unless you had some ability/spell that let you do so (twin for example).
3. Yes it can use items but no it can't attune. Saddle of the Cavalier would be a good example of a magic item you might want to aquire. The bite would be a natural weapon.
4. It has its own stat block. So no it doesn't use the rangers stats/feats/ASIs. You could always ask your DM if you can teach your drake new skills.
5. Seems like it should work, but I don't have access to that item so can't say for sure.

for the third question since it can use items could it use something like this? insignia of claws
TLDR for item
While wearing the insignia, you gain a +1 bonus to the attack rolls and the damage rolls you make with unarmed strikes and natural weapons. Such attacks are considered to be magical.
If it requires attunement, then probably not. It might better to ask your DM if they would allow it. Keep in mind that if the drake goes down to 0 HP, then the items drop to the ground.
Whether or not it can attune to an item isn’t very clear. The RAW on attunement is: Attuning to an item requires a creature to spend a short rest focused on only that item while being in physical contact with it (this can't be the same short rest used to learn the item's properties). This focus can take the form of weapon practice (for a weapon), meditation (for a wondrous item), or some other appropriate activity.
With an 8 int and 14 wis, and it can speak, it seems like it could have the necessary faculties to focus on a thing for an hour. There’s PCs out there with not as good mental stats, and we’d let them attune. I know there’s people out there that allow familiars to attune to items, because this question often comes up in that context. It’s really going to be a DM call.
