Short version of the question, can you target a Tenser's Floating Disk with Levitate?
Probably this will come down to a DM ruling, but the disk is made of force, and levitate can only target creatures or loose objects. So it seems mostly to depend on if a disk of pure force is an object, or some other category.
Of course, all the other restrictions and such would apply normally, weight limit (same for both spells, which is convenient), distance from the caster, etc. But could I cast floating disk, hit it with levitate and create a short-term elevator?
So long story no cause even the spell says it cant handle elevation changes at a certain height. So the bolded text would basically read to me that if it gets higher then 10 feet it would stop working as thats a limit of the spell.
It can move across uneven terrain, up or down stairs, slopes and the like, but it can’t cross an elevation change of 10 feet or more.
I appreciate the answers so far, but they are to different questions.
I get it about the elevation change; that’s where levitate comes in. Certainly I couldn’t pop tenser’s at the top of a cliff and ride it down, I agree, but levitate I’d think would get me around that.
As far as of its loose, that’s a whole different conversation. Right now I’m wondering about the first hurdle of it’s an object at all.
I guess I could just stick a couple pieces of wood together, and use that as an elevator — weight restrictions and such would apply of course. Just the disk part is much more fun.
I would say yes it is an object, it coulnt be the target of of levitat because it it immobile while the caster is within 20 feet. even targetin gt the caster wouldnt bring the disk higher then 10 feet since it states in the spell description that it cannot cross an elevation change of more then 10 feet..
Considering the spell Disintegrate says that it can target "... a creature, an object, or a creation of magical force, such as the wall created by wall of force." This implies that creations of magical force are not objects.
This could just be extra clarification, but absent any text making it clear that creations of magical force are objects this is likely the closest we will get to a RAW answer.
Regardless, Wysperra's point stands. You can just cast Levitate on a container, like a backpack, and load it up and tow it behind you with a rope.
A force is not an object listed in the Dungeon Master’s Guide example and judging by how rules such as spells usually makes distinction between them, i take it's not.
Objects: For the purpose of these rules, an object is a discrete, inanimate item like a window, door, sword, book, table, chair, or stone, not a building or a vehicle that is composed of many other objects.

As a DM I would rule that the disk is not a valid target because it is not 'loose'.

Just use Levitate. It's one spell.
