I'm playing a ranger/fighter multiclass, and I have the horde breaker attack feature along with extra attack. I was wondering out of 1 attack could I hypothetically attack 4 times in a turn with it, and I'll explain my thoughts properly below.

1st attack - normal ranged weapon

2nd attack- extra attack ranged weapon

3rd attack- horde breaker (If applicable) ranged weapon

4th attack - extra attack from horde breaker ranged weapon

I'm wondering if it will work since the wording for extra attack is "You can attack twice whenever you take the attack action on your turn" so since the horde breaker is a attack action type, would it let me attack that 2nd target again with my extra attack? 

The Extra Attack feature let you attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, which in this sequence doesn't apply to Hoard Breaker since you're not taking the Attack action again.

No that won't work. The Horde Breaker feature even limits it by itself.

Horde Breaker

Once on each of your turns when you make a weapon attack, you can make another attack with the same weapon against a different creature that is within 5 feet of the original target and within range of your weapon.
