Aside from the change between standard action and bonus action, can you give a berry to an unconscious or dying person? or does it have to be the beneficiary PC who uses the bonus action?
RAW, no.. "A creature can take a Bonus Action to eat one berry." This is intentionally written. You can not take actions or bonus actions while unconsciousness.
A healing potion is specifically and intentionally different, it specifies "...or administer it to another creature".
...it's magic...that's just how it works.
nor would I allow it in my game as a homebrew rule, it utterly guts the point and value of healing potions.
The original post is asking whether you would allow giving…
No it isn’t, it asked ‘can you’. It’s pretty clearly asking about actual rules of the new spell-in the RULES forum. The answer is, RAW, no. Homebrew you can do whatever you want, but the spell, as written, doesn’t allow it. there is no ‘can you’ when it comes to home brewing your own version of a spell…you can make it do whatever you want.
the length of time the *goodberrys* are around is not spelled out.
The duration of the spell is Instantaneous....
Ten berries appear in your hand and are infused with magic for the duration (?Instantaneous?). A creature can take a Bonus Action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 Hit Point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day.
Uneaten berries disappear when the spell ends (?Instantaneous?).
So the berries are around only durring the casters turn? or for the casters bonus action?
Apparently the fact that many people use a goodberry to stabilize unconscious people was not taken into effect in the 6th edition (2024 PHB). This use of it should be added to future printings of the spell, but only one goodberry can be administered for this purpose. Any more fed to the unconscious character will not heal a creature to positive hit points. This protects and makes potions the only ITEMS that can restore the unconscious to positive hit points.
Referencing Goodberry spell (2024 or 5.5e) "A creature can take a Bonus Action to eat one berry. Eating a berry restores 1 Hit Point, and the berry provides enough nourishment to sustain a creature for one day.” Does this mean a person can benefit from eating more than one berry using multiple bonus actions (multiple 1 pt restores) and does also allow a person to be sustained for up to 10 days by eating 10 berries using 10 bonus actions.
Please clarify.
(NOTE: I would think not. Possibly get up to 10 points of healing using 10 Bonus Actions, but only 1 berry sustaining for 1 day, not cumulative.)
Compared to Potions which say '' Drinking a potion or administering it to another creature requires a Bonus Action.'' Goodberry diesn't allow to administer it to another creature.
You can eat 1 goodberry per turn, using bonus action each turn to eat a berry, and you would regain 10 hit points in one minute. That will also give you sustenance for that day.
You can also eat one goodberry a day, and have sustenance for 10 days.
You can also eat one goodberry a day, and have sustenance for 10 days.
Well... as long as you cast it every day, you can eat goodberries until the day you die if you want, but if you cast the spell once and expect to live off that single casting for ten days, you are going to be disappointed. Goodberry's duration is only 24 hours, and "uneaten berries disappear when the spell ends," so you can only benefit from the full days' sustenance effect once before the remaining berries disappear.
Thank you. That's how I would have interpreted the spell, but wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something. Just wanted to be sure that eating 10 berries in 1 10 turns (1 minute) didn't give a person 10 days of sustenance.
Also, I interpret this phrase "A creature can take a Bonus Action to eat one berry...." to mean, that a creature can take one of the berries from your hand, and you can give a berry to another creature, and you can eat one of the berries, with each having 1 hit point restored AND have a full day's sustenance, with 7 berries left for later, so long as 24 hours haven't passed.
Ahh, but the EFFECT of eating a good berry is the recovery of 1 hit point AND sustenance for 1 day. So, if I eat 6 of the good berries in one go, do I recover 6 hp AND have sustenance for 6 days? OR is it 1-HP and 1-day suspense PER CREATURE no matter how many of the berries that singular creature eats, with eh remainder able to go to other party members?????
OR is up to DM discretion how this spell is supposed to work??
(My theory is in another post, but my theory may not be correct.)

There's no restriction on eating more than one, so you can definitely eat 6 and regain 6 HP.
The rules on "sustenance" are less clear, but in general it's not usually feasible for someone to eat 10 days of food all at once and then not get hungry for 10 days, so since the spell doesn't specifically allow that, I probably wouldn't allow it in practice.

Willy Wonka: "Eating this berry will feed you for one day..."
I would not allow it. Giving food to an unconscious person is dangerous!
So is pouring random liquids down someone's throat, but that's fine. D&D isn't a medical simulation.
So, an interesting take on the Goodberry is that one (specific quantity) can be eaten as a Bonus Action, but gaining a hit point from eating is a separate sentence. This may be a bit unconventional, but there is no requirement that:
you can only eat them as a bonus action
if you take an Action (Magic/Utilize?) to eat a Goodberry, you will be limited to one berry (I would still restrict it to one)
if you take an Action (Magic/Utilize?), you are unable to feed one or more berries to someone
Whether this is RAI or not, I feel this is RAW and allows the continued use of goodberries as a first aid mechanism.
Current version says you cannot feed it to somebody else. You need to spend you own action in order to consume and benefit from it. I would probably tell players that want to get 10 days of feed out of a single casting of berry that the effect lasts 24 hours. Not cumulative.

You’re referencing 2014 rule rulings for 2024 spells…after the spell has been re-evaluated and updated since that ruling.
RAW, the answer is still no. Homebrew you can shove it up someone’s nose and it works

@Dr_Selastraga was comenting that here:

Wait what? Oh, this seems to be a tooltip error. Both the printed book and the Compendium version specify that the duration is 24 hours.

Omg thank you! This explains a lot!

Yes, I believe that is the intent of the spell - to feed your party.
