I'm currently co-DMing a Tomb of Annihilation campaign with the new 2024 rules and we made a spreadsheet to account for the old backgrounds that our players may wish to play along with corresponding new Ability Scores and Origin Feats which ones were replaced by the new backgrounds.

Hopefully this can help you and your players decide how to figure out how to add old backgrounds within the new 2024 PHB rules :)
