Me and my group got into a discussion concerning unarmed strikes. It's my understanding that I can make an unarmed strike - a strike with no weapon - as a bonus action after striking with a weapon as a monk. That attack is with a part of the body, whether it be a fist, foot, forearm, or forehead. Others see it as since I'm a monk, I can use any weapon that is a monk weapon in place of the unarmed strike. I'm sure we're reading the rules differently, but I wanted to throw it out to the masses because I want clarification to make sure I'm gaming correcting. An Unarmed Strike is a strike with no weapon, or Monks have it special and can use weapons as extensions of their bodies.
Unarmed Strike is without weapons. You don't need a hand free to do it, as you can hit with a head, foot, elbow, or whatever other part you may have (such as a tail).
2014 Monks using the Tasha's optional features can use a weapon attack instead as their bonus action if they used at least 1 ki point during their attack action. 2024 monks no longer require you to attack to get your bonus action unarmed strike but can't use a weapon for the bonus action attack.
