You can form a telepathic connection between your mind and the mind of another. As a Bonus Action, choose one creature you can see within 30 feet of yourself. You and the chosen creature can communicate telepathically with each other while the two of you are within a number of miles of each other equal to your Charisma modifier(minimum of 1 mile). To understand each other, you each must mentally use a language the other knows.
The telepathic connection lasts for a number of minutes equal to your Warlock level. It ends early if you use this feature to connect with a different creature.
For Awakened Mind, you have to be within 30 feet to initiate, but the link can last while you are miles apart. However, the duration is only 1 minute per Warlock level. The only use case for the "miles apart" after being "within 30 feet" after a few minutes would be if one of you can teleport. Am I missing something or is that the intended reasoning? I suppose I could jump off a cliff that's a mile down (less than a 40 second trip for the average human) and Feather Fall at the end and still have the link for a few minutes.
At level 20 you can potentially walk 2 2/3 miles apart before the spell ends. Add in horses or speed-boosting magic items, and that limit becomes very relevant.

3rd level features shouldnt be balanced around what you can do at 20th level.
This feature should probably be hours or tens of minutes, instead of up to 20 minutes at max level.

Making the basic unit miles helps avoid much need to track distance while setting a practical limit.
Also, considering Telepathic Bond is a thing, a class feature shouldn't be grabbing so much of its utility. Particularly one with unlimited uses.

I get that the miles make it easier to track but the minutes make it way harder to
Thats true, but ive always thought that Telepathic bond should last longer anyways. It feels like an overleveled spell, the thing really keeping it up there is it being a ritual spell.
Yeah it felt off to me as well. Heck ignoring the miles limit even if it had only been 1000 feet or something a few minute connection you have to set up from within 30 feet kind of felt off at its core in the first place. It is such a short duration it makes a niche feature almost closer to a ribbon feature. Yeah silent communication in something like a spy campaign even when just across the room can have its uses etc, but minutes, its ending before it was useful pretty much every dang time. Maybe ribbon feature is what they were shooting for as that level is pretty stacked. But it would have been nice if like at level 6 it upgraded to 10s of minutes, level 10 hours, level 14 it was just all day or something.

It basically is a ribbon feature. The patron spells and psychic spells feature are the meat of the subclass at 3rd level.
