As a Moon Druid, you can add your WIS modifier to hold concentration on spells while shape-shifting at level 6. Flame Blade is a concentration spell that requires a free hand to summon the weapon.
The only Beast a Druid can wildshape into that has a hand is an Ape.
So, if I cast Flame Blade and wild shape into an Ape, can I use Flame Blade in Ape form?
Thanks, but that answer uses real-world physics, though. If we can't use real-world physics to grant PCs abilities, we surely can't use real-world physics to limit them either.
I'd be inclined to rule that you could use it, since it isn't really a weapon per se, and you're making a spell attack rather than a weapon attack — i.e., its chance of hitting is based on your Wisdom, not the Ape form's Strength.
I think it's worth pointing out for the sake of clarity that any Druid can concentrate on spells while in Wild Shape. The level 6 Circle of the Moon feature does make it easier by improving your Constitution saving throws.
I would allow it but my real question is why bother? By the time you can cast L2 spells you should have at least as many HP as the ape and, hopefully, a better AC. Given that you get 2 L2 spells if I was going to do it I would use both casting doing barkskin then flame blade and then transforming. Of course by then the combat will be over or nearly so

As a Moon Druid, your wild shape takes your own HP, and your AC is calculated from your WIS modifier, so no need for barkskin.
I have another question though. What if I take a Master's Amulet and make my Shield Guardian store Flame Blade at level 4, could it replace its fist attacks with an attack using the blade? Might not seem very useful since the damage is similar, but it could be a big powerup against an enemy that's immune or resistant to physical damage.
And while I'm at it, since that construct has hands, could it hold a shield?

I think that as long as your form can hold the blade, you are able to use it.

Are you sure about that?
