I am running a new Champaign and some of my players want to take some older backdrounds, as I've seen in the new PHB if the background does not give them an ABI they can chose themselves and if the background does not give them a feat they can also take a Origin feat, but what happens if the background already gives them a feat like Squire of Solamnia, strixhaven initiate etc. Do they get it, does it count as an Origin feat ?
It says that if you choose an older background that doesn't provide a feat, then you get an Origin Feat of your choice, implying that if you choose a background that does have a feat, you just get that feat.
That said, Squire of Solamnia and Strixhaven Initiate are both pretty tightly tied to the specific settings that they came from. Using them outside those settings may be unwise in general.

I believe that's the intent of this sidebar in the new Player's Handbook:
