I have a player that is playing a changeling g character. He said that he wanted to wrap his bag of holding around his waist, under a fitted outfit (they were going to a ball).
As dm, I understand that I have final say, but would like to provide a detailed response why (because he will complain).
I initially said that he can duplicate creatures, but shaping your body around objects goes too far. He argued that if he can shape his body to be other creatures, can he appear 'thinner' in his stomach, where the bag is?
I said that it goes beyond the ability's description. The ability let's you copy other creatures, not mold yourself to hide objects.

Thoughts?
He can try to be thinner, but he can’t create some kind of hollow cavity. The bag will still bulge out.
But to the larger point. Rules only do what they say. It doesn’t say changelings can hide things with their shape shifting ability, so they can’t.
