Hello, I recently made a Gunslinger character using the new sourcebook for them. For Weapon Mastery in 1st level I chose Nick for Daggers, and at level 5 I get the Extra Attack feat as part of the class. Because the description of Nick is "When you make the extra attack of the Light property, you can make it as part of the Attack action instead of as a Bonus Action. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.", it confused me whether these two would stack or not. For example:
First Attack: I attack with my Dagger. I then use Nick on my second dagger to attack again, but this is counted as part of my first attack.
Second Attack from Extra Attack: I attack again and then have my Bonus Action.
Is that how it works? I want to make sure before I use this character in a campaign soon.
Another thing I was unsure about was whether I can use another Dagger for this as the wording here made me think I need an entirely different weapon with the Light Property: "It still functions the same way: When you make an attack with a weapon that has the Light property, you can use a Bonus Action to make one attack with a different Light weapon you’re wielding." (Description taken from here: Your Guide to Weapon Mastery in the 2024 Player's Handbook | Dungeons & Dragons)
I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this or not but wanted to confirm.
The specifics here are a bit hazy, nothing specifies where in the attack action the Light Property modified by Nick must take place. As such:
Main Attack, Light Attack (Nick), Main Attack
Main Attack, Main Attack, Light Attack (Nick)
Should both be valid. People have different ideas on if the Nick Attack has to be performed with a Nick Weapon or if it's the main triggering attack that does, but as we are dealing with two daggers here then that is irrelevant for this example. However, yes you can use two daggers, it's two separate weapons, not two different weapon types.
Your extra attack from your class feature is completely unrelated to any extra attacks you get from Light weapons. You do get both, and there's no question about that.
However, you don't get to make both the Nick attack and a bonus action attack. Nick says that you can only use the extra attack of the Light property once per turn. (Not sure you thought you could, but in case that was what you meant by "I attack again and then have my Bonus Action.": while you have your bonus action for other purposes, like drinking a potion, you don't get another BA attack without an additional feature that gives you one, such as the Dual Wielder feat.)
