I am seeing some issues between the mechanics in dndbeyond and the RAW for multiclassing into Wizard.
Let me start off by saying I am currently a level 12 Life Cleric. While debating taking a level anywhere to multiclass, I read the rules for the Wizard and its spell book. I am able to copy ANY level 1+ spells into my book and use them as long as I have spell slots of that level. 12th level clerics can cast up to 6th level spells, but couldn’t take any wizard spells above level 1. Is this an issue in dnd beyond only or am i missing something? I was considering picking up Counterspell to help my party
There is a couple key words you may not have picked up about the spellbook. I have highlighted the relevant wording below.
Spellbook. Your wizardly apprenticeship culminated in the creation of a unique book: your spellbook. It is a Tiny object that weighs 3 pounds, contains 100 pages, and can be read only by you or someone casting Identify. You determine the book’s appearance and materials, such as a gilt-edged tome or a collection of vellum bound with twine.
The book contains the level 1+ spells you know. It starts with six level 1 Wizard spells of your choice.
Whenever you gain a Wizard level after 1, add two Wizard spells of your choice to your spellbook. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots, as shown in the Wizard Features table. The spells are the culmination of arcane research you do regularly.
The spells you have available from leveling have to be chosen from the Wizard spell list as if you were a 1st level Wizard. You don't get to multiclass later and immediately pick higher level Wizard spells.
Just to add to what @Sequilonis have already correctly said, this limits holds true even for spells you add to your spellbook outside of when levelling up too.
The spells you add to your spellbook as you gain levels reflect your ongoing magical research, but you might find other spells during your adventures that you can add to the book. You could discover a Wizard spell on a Spell Scroll, for example, and then copy it into your spellbook.
Copying a Spell into the Book. When you find a level 1+ Wizard spell, you can copy it into your spellbook if it’s of a level you can prepare and if you have time to copy it.
I'm not seeing mention of the Multiclassing rules here, funny enough.
From the BR/PHB:
Spells Prepared. You determine what spells you can prepare for each class individually, as if you were a single-classed member of that class. If you are a level 4 Ranger / level 3 Sorcerer, for example, you can prepare five level 1 Ranger spells, and you can prepare six Sorcerer spells of level 1 or 2 (as well as four Sorcerer cantrips).
Each spell you prepare is associated with one of your classes, and you use the spellcasting ability of that class when you cast the spell.
As a result, while your spell slots as a whole increase, your ability to cast as a Wizard is limited. It's the same reason you can't prepare 7th level Cleric spells even though you have the spell slot for it now.

I wouldn’t recommend doing more than a dip for absorb elements and spells that don’t require concentration.
