Am i missing something? or does equipment on goliaths not scale with them when using their Large form Feature, effectively ruining their armor/clothes or making them strip before they can get their size increase?
Their gear is unaffected in both senses. It is not enhanced by the ability nor damaged by it. It makes them Large, gives them advantage on Strength checks, and increases their speed. That's it. No other effects on the Goliath or their gear.
Yes, that is what the feature says, but somewhere else i remember reading armor for a small creature wont fit a medium size creature, for example plate on a gnome wont fit a goliath unless it gets resized. So using that logic a medium size goliath wearing plate uses there Large form 1 of 2 things have to happen if the equipment doesn't scale with them.
1. their size doesnt increase because they are trapped in plate, they still get everything else.
2. their plate explodes off of them, so their size can expand to large.
now I believe option 1 is the more likely scenario because in the feature it mentions "you can change your size to Large as a Bonus Action if you’re in a big enough space." Since they are wearing armor that wont scale in size

The Variant Rule on Equipment Size for DM optional use.
Variant: Equipment Sizes
In most campaigns, you can use or wear any equipment that you find on your adventures, within the bounds of common sense. For example, an orc adventurer won’t fit in a halfling’s Leather Armor, and a cloud giant’s robe would be far too large for a gnome.
The DM can impose more realism. For example, a suit of Plate Armor made for one human might not fit another one without significant alterations, and a guard’s uniform might be visibly ill-fitting when an adventurer tries to wear it as a disguise.
Using this variant, when adventurers find armor, clothing, and similar items that are made to be worn, they might need to visit a smith, a tailor, a leatherworker, or a similar expert to make the item wearable. The cost for such work is 1d4 × 10 percent of the market price of the item.
Unlike Enlarge/Reduce saying Everything that a targeted creature is wearing and carrying changes size with it, a Goliath Large Form doesn't make any mention regarding carried or worn equipment changing size so they don't.
DMs generally don't force PC to remove armor or equipment worn though.
Going to large size probably should burst their armor. As a DM, I say it doesn’t burst their armor nor does the armor increase in size. My reasoning is that Goliaths are already pretty tall in their normal form and to break the ceiling into a Large creature, might only be 4” to 6” of height increase. So I let things be.

Neither is the case.
The issue is that you can't have core rules that take into account optional or potential optional rules. The variant rule in the Equipment section of the PHB that Plaguescarred quoted (thanks!) sets a default of equipment size restrictions are determined by "common sense" and even then, it does not explicitly state that a creature of one size cannot wear equipment for a creature of a different size, it only suggests it.
Using that logic and the fact that ability does not say that the equipment or the Goliath is damaged by the transformation, the equipment must be unharmed and usable, even if the variant rule is used.

I'd say while generally tight fit armor might burst, a Goliath armor is probably kept loose enought to accomodate it,s Large Form.
Personally, it a level of details i don't want to enforce, especially at the detriment of my players.
Only time i may bring up this Variant Rule is when a large monster is wearring an armor a smaller character can't wear without making adjustment or rework.
Its an interesting problem. It goes away entirely if you are playing a Barbarian unarmored.
What I would probably do (for flavor) is to say that Goliath armor is designed with “elastic” bands more or less that can expand somewhat comically if it is regular armor. But Magic armor would just magically grow.
I can’t imagine requiring players to destroy plate armor to use a core racial feature.
